Next step up is Opelscanner, about £250 though.  VXL V6 and IGGY21UK have them, might be worth asking them on features etc.

You can get a usb to serial convertor but in my experience they don't work.

When you say would not connect to your car, do you mean the plug fit or it just never recognized it when all was connected car/cable /laptop ?

The lead was fine -when I tried to read modules on the car -no luck

Mmmm    Dont mind paying £20 ish for one of these

http://search.ebay.co.uk/vauxhall-tech-2_W0QQdfspZ1QQfromZR10QQssPageNameZWLRS

If they do work there's few slightly different types to choose from varying in price £18 - £40 , plus usb & serial port ones, tempted to get a usb type but as anyone used one (does it work) ? as can buy other type , but never tested the port on my laptop as I know my usb ones work for sure . :-/
Anyone had success with either ?

I have a serial port version.

Used it using the serial ports on 2 laptops, both running XP
also used it with a cheap serial - USB adaptor, on 2 other laptops, on XP one Vista, and got it to work on both with some playing
