Title: v6 engine swap
Post by: rosco on 09 June 2008, 20:28:57
My omega 2.5 v6 auto timing belt slipped and smashed the valves to bits so i want to change the engine so,

1.If i swap with another 2.5 will i have to have the ecu's from the same car.

2.Would it be to much hassle fitting a 2.5td motor and what would it involve.

3.After i fit another motor would i have to take it to main dealer to reprogramme anything.

Do the engine with a similar age same size and there are no electronics/programing to worry about.

TD - Don't bother.

As TB has said, find another 2.5 and do a swap over....

If you struggle to get a omega 2.5 look for a vectra 2.5, you will need to swap parts over but again its another avenue to explore.

Both will go straight in and run off your current set up.

Don't bother with a 2.6 (if you could find one) completely different setup

Its a straight swap make sure its the same spec car or better, its also easier to do the box an the engine together.

I have'nt taken the heads off yet,but when i took the spark plugs out 1 plug had it's electrode smashed flat.Would that have damaged the piston

How did electrode get damaged? That must mean more than just bent valves

I,ve looked down inlet and on the left bank it has snapped at least 4 valves on 2 cylinders. On the right bank every thing looks allright but i,m thinking it can't have done the pistons much good,so i will take heads off to see what mess i'm left with
