Title: Heads off!
Post by: Martin_1962 on 15 June 2008, 21:04:18
As you may remember my valve seals are gone and I will need to do the heads.

Will also fix the blowing exhaust manifold gasket as well.

What else is worth doing at the same time?

Already got 2 assistants and a JV6CDX lined up.

Thinking of 3.x cams water pump and belts so far.

Hope to do either early autumn this year or late spring next year.

I upgraded the camshafts in my elite last week to 3.0ltr and the power increase is quite impressive.Like you said it is worthwhile doing the water pump/camcover gaskets will need doing if replacing the cams and a word of advise. When I took the old 2.5 shafts out I caught 1 of the camseals and had to order a newpair from VX,so might be worthwhile getting them aswell as I would suggest replacing them aswell just to be totaly sure.Best of luck with it but from my experience it is well worth the work, especially as with a cambelt/tensioner service it is all in bits anyway

I was wondering if it was worth doing a whole oil cooler.

I am buying a few bits each month.

Got the stat and coolant transfer pipe, I can borrow a Snap On torque wrench.

I'll scare the parts chap in a couple of weeks.

Pity my dad is not so well as I would have liked him to help too.

If I could afford it I'd rebore it and replace the crank with a forged one;D

I replaced my oil cooler just for piece of mind, as i could not 100% garentee about regular coolant changes from day 1. And from experience it seems they can still fail prematurly anyway >:(
