Title: New Secret Aircraft
Post by: Crazydad on 23 October 2007, 17:33:28
[ch65279]

This type of flying should technically be IMPOSSIBLE…………..this is truly unbelievable !!!

[ch65279]

The U. S. has nothing comparable to the Russian SU-30 - Vectored Thrust with Canards.

[ch65533]

As you watch this airplane, look at the canards moving along side of, and just below the canopy rail. This is a video of an in-flight demonstration flown by the Russian SU-30 MK fighter aircraft. You may have a problem in believing what you are about to see.

[ch65533]

The fighter can stall from high speed, stopping in less than a second. Then it demonstrates an ability to descend tail first without causing a compressor stall. It can also recover from a flat spin in less than a minute. These capabilities don't exist in any other aircraft in the world today.

[ch65533]

Take a look at the video with the sound up. This aircraft is of concern to U. S. and NATO planners. We don't know which nations will soon be flying the SU-30 MK, hopefully China isn't one of them.

[ch65533]

You've also got to acknowledge the skill of the pilot. !

[ch65533]

For those who asked - a canard is a short wing-like control surface projecting from the fuselage of an aircraft, such as a space shuttle, mounted forward of the main wing and serving as a horizontal stabilizer, OR, an aircraft whose horizontal stabilizing surfaces are forward of the main wing.

Very impressive.  There was a rusky at Fairford last year which did a pretty spectacular display, not sure if it was this one or not.

These are known as "aerodynamically unstable craft" .... in a stable aircraft the thing can be trimmed to fly "hands off" ... just like a home made paper airplane, or a large glider .. it needs no inputs and its inbuilt inertia makes it stable, but this also makes it more difficult to turn ... less agile.

The unstable aircraft requires a computor to constantly and continuously "fly" the aircraft as it will do its own thing !! This gives it little inertia (in a control sense) and allows for very agile movement, but a human would not be able to control it without the computor help, his reactions would not be fast enough

Early models that "proved" the theory were able to twist and turn at rates (g forces) that would actualy kill a human pilot .. if the aircraft did not disintegrate first !!

:)

Very good. But very low speed. Our lads would blow that out of the sky while it was f*cking around. :y

So what can it do what a Harrier can't?

It's not very secret if it's trailing all that red smoke from the wing tips ;D :D ;)

Isn't that the Typhoon??

You should have seen some of the things that the fantastic Harrier did when I was in the Falklands in 1982. I was right there seeing its awesome capabilities.

You think that is good, the Harrier was awesome, it will always hold a place in my heart

get yourself a 6 point safety harness, clip a kerb in your omega at 150 going up a hill, you'll pretty much do the same!! ;D

very impressive though!!

Very impressive :y....what came to mind when watching was the Harrier as the only aircraft that could do moves close to that eg rotate/adjust the VTOL nozzles (make the plane go up and avoid missiles). I know the amercians have a new aircraft that is stealth and can operate from aircraft carriers ::)

according to wikipedia, the Chinese already have 72 of them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi_Su-30

with the way defence cuts are going, we'll be fighting them off with our bulldogs and tucano's.

Whilst the technology of the aircraft is beyond what the west may have I fail to see how the moves the aircraft makes can avoid it being shot down by missiles ::)....especially if they are heat seeking :-?...................

I thought the very same  ::) no good displaying what a aircraft can do, then after the display, you don't disclose that............ only this display pilot can fly it  ::) that's had a billion hours in practice for the show, so....... if all you countries that we wish you would buy it, you'll have to put your (no flying hours) pilots into, it that will crash and burn  ::) and us ruskies are quids in  ;D (more vodka vladimere)
$26 million , red smoke is extra   :'(

Jeeeeeez  ::) what does it matter who's got what  :question everybody is gonna get nuked anyway  :-[
As soon as the siren goes off........... mines a Carlsberg

Carlsberg do'nt do nuke's  ::) but if they did  ::) they'd probably be the best........................................   ;D

Brilliant

And no the harrier would not live with it, not even the new American plane based on the the harrier we gave them, and we stopped developing. And the Americans cant even keep clean so stealth is out the window.

Thier camera technology was brilliant also guess who is using it.

Thier air conditioning brilliant and 1/5th the size of the American one, guess who is using it in the Shuttle.

Russia as a country has really been abused over the past decade, is it about to change hopefully if only to ballance the bloody American idiots.

Yep, Putin's such a nice chap....

Why have they started up the Cold War Tupolev Bear patrols again?

Feel far safer with the Yanks, at least with them What You See Is What You Get.

Vectored Thrust is the next coming things in fighter planes (has been for a while now), same principal as the Harrier but the thrust angle is very subtle compared to the harrier's 90 degrees and used constantly in flight as opposed for mainly in take-offs and landings. Die Hard 4 shows a fictional version of this, where this idea is taken to an extreme and the Vectored Thrust plane is flown like a helicopter... the Russians were always better than the west in metalorgy which means they had better engines because their metals could withstand higher temperatures and pressures (the Mig-25 is still unbeatable in terms of ceiling and speed for a fighter aircraft), but they are seriously legging behind on sophisticated avionics and in R&D funds. Still the main problem for the West is not the quality, but the quantity... the West can never match the quantity of war machines the Chinese can put on the land, see and in the air. Let's hope it does not get to that...

Not a fair comment, IMHO

Yes, the US military attracts some pretty gung-ho types that wouldn't get passed the first interview for the RAF, etc., but that wasn't my point.

At least I know what US policy is, even if I may disagree with it... As far as some other states are concerned, I have no idea what they're doing, other than flogging technology to other states whose aims are far from pleasant.

This is taking an interesting turn...

Personally, I disagree with the US on many issues, and yes their wars are not merely motivated by altruism. But history shows that there has always been at least one major superpower influencing the rest of the world, from the times of the Romans through to Queen Victoria's British Empire, so if we must have one powerful nation around I would rather have the Yanks than the Chinese, Russians, Iranians, etc (or the Germans, for that matter)... no European country on its own is strong enough these days to take this role, and the EU as a whole is not a state (yet..) and anyway very divided over both foreign and domestic policies. In an ideal world we wouldn't need them, but as things stand give me the yanks every time...

Pointing fingers at them seem very common these days, but what's the alternative?

So how does the MiG25 compare to say a Lightning in performance?

From memory the MIG25 does Mach 3.0+ and 60k+ feet.... it was built to intercept the U2. The U2 still flies higher, but it was within the Mig25 missile range. The lightening was slightly lower than that, I'll have to goole it to be more precise.

no intention to be unfair NB - sorry if it came over that way.

I'm no expert on US policy but I do have pretty sceptical opinion about media management/manipulation and the like.   I also have no doubt that the US (and ourselves for that matter) sell munitions etc to a multitude of dubious places.

This reminds me... in 1999, following the 1996 Dunblane massacre where 16 children and a teacher were killed by Thomas Hamilton using legally-owned pistols and revolvers, the government decided to outlaw private ownership of handguns.

They collected from the public a few thousand legally-owned handguns, and paid-out compensation to the owners to value of the recovered items. This operation did cost a pretty penny, the government estimated it at around £150,000 but some say the actual cost was nearer the £500,00 mark.

The point is that they had to decide what to do with the recovered handguns... some were memorabilia items, but most were used by owners for sporting purposes e.g. shooting matches and as such were quite expensive.

The problem was that what the government had on their hands was a collection of different make and models of second-hand handguns, and such such these were unsuitable for any law-enforcement or military use, and could be not be sold to a sovereign government. It was obvious that if the handguns get flogged to arms dealer (albeit legitimate arms dealers), it is inevitable that some of them will eventually be used for criminal activities in another part of the world.

So the government decided that rather than try and sell the handguns and re-coop some of the compensation pay-out costs, the recovered firearms should all be destroyed, and so they were.

Who says there is no morals in politics?

Poor G loadings, quicker, but not that much usably quicker, slightly higher ceiling as standard, but a worse range than a Lightning :o :o

Interesting though

In reality, the Mig-25s were a bugger to intercept... though the Israelis shot down a Syrian one in 1982, much of it due to pure luck.
