Title: Key problem
Post by: jereboam on 20 June 2008, 15:37:42
My car was in the local garage recently.  When it came back, I had trouble turning the key in the lock and removing the key.  It turns and removes eventually, and everything seems to work OK.  It looks perfect.

The spare key, which didn't go to the garage, works without a problem, so the fault is clearly with the key, not the lock.  The garage owner says not to use the faulty key (sensible!), and he will try to find out what the problem is.

Anyone got any suggestions to help him?

Surely you can see if its bent or maybe been pulled out roughly & slightly damaged it, where its cut !look really closely at them side by side , at least you only need a blank & get it recut at local locksmith £2 or so to do it, blanks come up on egay time to time,  ::)

As I said, it looks perfect.  There doesn't appear to be any damage, and it isn't bent.

Of course, it may be damaged minutely - it almost certainly is - but the damage isn't visible to my untrained eye.  It looks exactly the same as the one that works.

But it isn't really my problem - the garage damaged it, they'll fix it.  :)

I hope...

Ask him to lub the lock and blow out with a air line.
Check both keys ask the faulty 1 may have some burrs on it or it may be worn out.
Question how many bits and bobs do u have on your keyring as it nackers the locks very quickly if they ae wayed down
