Anybody know if it's possible to hook up a freeview box to a laptop, instead of a television?
(And would I just need a Scart > S-Video cable, if that's correct?)
Or would it be a better idea to use a USB donlge to receive freeview on my laptop? (I've read it will be a better picture and run faster? i.e. no "encoding"? ) I am a bit worried about signal strength though...
Thanks in advance,
Louis

You live about two miles from Emley Moor transmitter Louis. I can get a great digital signal on my portable with a £1 shop aerial, ie. a coathanger ;)

the dongles work pretty well :)

STMO uses preparation H on his dongles ;D ;D

Never tried it on the laptop, but the spare Freeview box that I have in the
bedroom, just plugs straight in to a spare flat panel computer monitor with
the scart/video cable that it came with.
Works great. So I don't see why it shouldn't work through a laptop.

Not anymore Steve, I live in Leeds now (at uni) ;)
Thanks guys, any recommendations on the dongle? Preferably not too expensive, but a decent one...
(I was looking at the Hauppauge ones?)

I think the Freecom ones are about as cheap as you can get....

Trouble with hooking up a freview box to a laptop is there isn't a video input to process the video signal, so it wouldn't work. As regards freeview sticks, some need a lot of horsepower to work. I have a Peak hardware one which has a pretty good interface but need a P4 1.7G to run, whereas a cheap (about £15) DVB-T USB dongle will run on most Intel
crap 1.5G Celerons without any trouble. My fav is the Nebula series. Their USB box will let you record several channels at once, if they are on the same multiplex.
