i have a 2.0 gls auto 97 , at the moment its in limpo mode,
had diagnostics done, said low battery voltage (caused management system light to come on), will new battery cure.
ive also heard can reset comp by turning key 15 times is this true

Search the maintenance section for "paperclip test" and you'll find all the info in diagnosing engine management lights for yourself. 25-30 turns of the key should clear the fault if it is gone. I usually remove the battery for an hour or so (overnight is even better) and it clears the codes as well, for some reason everyone claims it doesn't work for them but definitely works for me!
You should do a paperclip test before you proceed and make sure of the engine codes. Post the results up just so we can be sure it is the battery.

Removing the cause of the fault will remove the lamp on the dash however the ECU will remember the fault untill you've had 15? 20? 25? 'clean starts'

tried paperclip test, flashed 10 times, i was expecting 12,
then i got 56 fault code then could not make any sense of whatever else it did. i did watch videoclip looked easy (when i did it it wasnt.)there was another fault code, but i waited for repeat maybe im being dim but that didnt repeat 3 times so do not know what the prob is :'(
what i meant by 12 is 1 then 2 repeated 3 times

The ten flashes count as a zero on the fault code list. Your fault code is 0560 which is the battery. Time for a new one me thinks! :y

Try sticking the battery on charge overnight ... it might just be a tad low for some reason, and a decent charge might revive it .. save you some cash .. :)

hello entwood, ive been charging same battery for a while although its still got decent amount of juice, maybe getting to low on amps or something and is time to throw in towel and purchase new one ::)

Have the cells got plenty of acid in them, I top a dud battery up with water then charge it. Sometimes just better to get a new one though.

have topped up so often probably unfair to call acid, maybe homemade electrical water. theres probably a point where topping up just dosent cut the mustard. funny how this problem hasnt occured before when battery was extremely flat. maybe the voltage or amps go all weird after a certain point and electronics say thats it weve had enough.

Instead of guessing, buy yourself a basic 'El Cheapo' multimeter
and do some simple voltage checks on your battery and charging
system.
Check the battery voltage with engine not running. Look for circa 12.6V
Check again with engine running. Look for circa 14V.
Check after been standing all night. Has voltage dropped off?
Even if you've already changed the battery before reading this, do
the checks on the new battery in case you have a charging fault or a
battery drain that either knackered your old battery or led you to an
incorrect fault diagnosis.
Anyone can do simple volts/ amps/ ohms test, and it'll save you a lot
of guessing and pouring money down a drain.
