I just done the head gaskets, engine started fine :) phew!
But I've got water dripping from the middle of the gearbox, its obviously running down from the engine somewhere - what could be leaking?
When I called the AA out, the guy spotted a leak from the gearbox, he first thought it was oil, but it was water. So not sure if the head gasket failure has caused something else to fail (like it did to the radiator top hose).
I also still got some white smoke coming out of the exhausts - I really hope this is condensation, or water still in the exhaust system.
When I took the heads off, there was alot of water in the cylinders! There was also alot of water in the oil when I drained it, looked disgusting!
One more thing, I know both the cats have failed! I'll be replacing these with cat bypass pipes next week......

Heater bypass valve leaking!

Heater bypass valve leaking!
... and will take a wee while to heat up/burn off the water that condensed in the exhaust pipes, if there was that much in the cylinders as you describe....
Try parking the car uphill on a steep slope and running the car.
Or drill a wee hole in each box to let it drain out then refill with gumgum!!

If the car had been run for a while with the gaskets gone the mufflers will be damp they will dry out in time dont worry this is a common thing

well, its stopped smoking! :)
And its not leaking :)
But will keep an eye on things over next few days.
Just so pleased with myself in doing the head gasket! :)

Well done, you! braver than me.
Got a garage to do mine for £ lots. but i did have a courtesy car throughout the job. it was a brand new astra... I couldn't believe what an unpleasant experience it was!
Lovely to be back in an 'old' Omega.
