One day in March this year, when collecting my daughter (6) from school, a mum of one of her close friends told me she was taking her daughter to see "Peter Pan on Ice" that evening. Knowing that my little one loved the story, and not wishing her to lose out, I got home and booked up. There were still a couple of the top price seats available (well she is my princess!!). Anyway I took her to St Albans and resigned myself to 2 hours of boredom.....
How wrong I was!
I have to say that I was completely blown away by the performance and would happily have sat through it all again there and then. Anyway, to cut a long story short I have booked 20 front-row seats so all her friends to see the next production ("Beauty and the Beast") at Dunstable in December. Practically all the the Russian skaters who make up the cast have championship medals behind them and the music and costumes are superb. This is NOT Disney cheesiness.
This is not everyone's cup of tea and I'm sure I'll get a few sarcastic comments, but if you have kids or are a kid at heart, I can thoroughly recommend these performers. Incidentally, they're doing "Peter Pan" again in Cambridge over Christmas.
This is the website link. Scroll down the left hand side and click on Showreel to see a compilation of their past performances.

Took mine to the O2 to see the Disney affair, was OK and the little one liked it, but the whole thing was a bit too commercial for my taste... lots of merchandising aimed at little kids, which is not fair on them because we obviously can't buy everything... (not at £15-£20 per item, anyway!). So will have a look at what you mentioned nickbat. :y

Oh Aye! ;D Not fussed about the medals but if they are russian, can dance AND fit in a skimpy outfit, then yes, that sounds like a good nights entertainment ;D

There was some merchandising at the interval (at Peter Pan) i.e those LED wands etc. and also a fair bit of Russian handicraft, but it's not over the top IMHO>

I was too smitten by Tinkerbell's legs to notice much at the interval. ;D ;)

Colour me 12, but I like Terry Pratchett novels. :P
All the good stuff is for kids these days. They're sophisticated without being numbed to vacuous sh!te.
