Post by: willyboy on 04 July 2008, 22:15:37
Always reading about cleaning the "breathers" cant imagine mine will have been done in last 10k,

Hi willyboy,
If you don't have any apparent symptoms then it would be best to give them a clean out now before you do! have some costly symptoms ;).

They reckon on at least every year or average yearly mileage which is just about what 10k is :y.

oil in plug wells will prob go un noticed until the car starts miss firing as the ht leads fail due to heat oil and the spark escaping. seen mention of stressing the dis pac as well, a pig of a job to change and 200 sobs, ht leads not easy either 90 a side from dealer  :o 35 a set from euro car parts but the lengths are not exactly right on those. :-/

i would be getting them done asap, personally, and cheack all plug wells for oil. :y

Famous saying "prevention is better than cure".If in doubt I would suggest you clean them as per the guide..you run the very real risk of expensive and much more difficult repair work as a result of not doing it.Oil and filter should also be replaced on a regular basis as it is the crap that the oil picks up,and when the oil starts to degrade, which causes the breathers to become blocked. Its then a certainty of future issues.

I take this is the guide  as have to admit not done it before but looks straight forward enough, looks like I need some new gaskets first though too
