Title: wishbones, model specific?
Post by: feeutfo on 09 July 2008, 23:34:52
have done a quick search, no joy. So can you please advise on replacement wishbones?
Who make them for vx, where do you get them, and how much?
Have read genuine 100 each or similar and can be had much cheaper unbranded.
Also are they all the same part number or are they model specific?
Car is 02 3.2 elite with zenon head lights and self leveling suspension, if relevent, thinking of all the little brakets for sensors etc. Thanks guys.

All the same across the range however with pattern ones you may need to drill the hole for the HID level sensor to bolt too.

I got mine from http://www.vauxcentre.co.uk/index.php?product_id=485975&option=Prod_detail

At that price if they only lasted a year you'd still be quids in compared to VX prices.

I got FIA ones off Ebay - 12 month warranty £48 a pair & the hole for the HID sensor was already there. I put these on my previous Omega and they were still ok after 18 months, 25k miles.

With 20 years experience on carlton/senators and omegas the cloest to oe spec is Lemforder from euro car parts.FEBI also ok but much of the 50 quid a pair on ebay is rubbish that last less than 10000 miles....

maybe true but if you have to spend £250 a side for genuine GM you will have to do 100k miles to break even

Lemforder make the originals.

Eurocarparts are conmen (i.e. not cheap), there cheaper from autovaux (ask for the lemforder ones) at 120 quid a pair delivered.

The pattern ones are ok and will do a job for a few years (depends on the roads and how you drive)

You have to be careful with QH, some of there stuff is excellent and some is shite (e.g. Water pumps good, wheel cylinders bad). Not aware of any parts they ever supplied Vx....mabe Corsa rear wheel cylinders  ;D ;D

Be careful with Autovaux I've had a few items that they told me were original equipment and definitely weren't.

Regarding wishbones - some of the suppliers vary their suppliers...so you can get some decent parts sometimes and other times not.

A pair from VSC were obviously from different suppliers LH and RH were different and one failed after 8k miles - the rear bush went.

A pair from buypartsy.co.uk for £15 a side were actually pretty good. Changed then at 25k miles and they were starting to go but were OK.

The FAI ones on Ebay seem pretty good....although despite advertising as FAI, one side was not FAI and was not quite as well made. Contacted the seller and they said they had run out of stock and had to go to an alternative supplier.

Still I think I'd rate the FAI ones as the best.

Motorways/slip roads and b roads all  with heavy tram lines/nice and steady  and like an absolute idiot when nobodys looking.
Certain members would not approve.
One of my phew gripes with omegas is the vague and wayward stearing so need the quality parts, pulling from rd. surface changes really gets on my wick. But there is always price to weigh up.

Just fitted a set from here:
http://www.vauxcentre.co.uk/index.php?product_id=485975&option=Prod_detail
£50 for the pair plus £7 postage. They came well packed and had the sensor hole pre-drilled.

The wording is "tricky" on the web page. In my opinion, they are not genuine Vx parts - as they will let you believe. However, they are a bargain and seem OK.

The Vauxcentre parts are not genuine, I rang and asked them. They couldn't tell me who manufactured them. I was also doubtful whether the Autovaux wishbones were Lemforder or not (as they stated) having bought them, but when I got the protective plastic off the ball joint the logo was on the rubber gaiter (owl, in a circle, in a triangle). They have the holes pre drilled for Xenons.
If you have problems with tramlining, whilst it could be exaggerated by poor wishbones, tyres or steering geometry suggest you also check the steering idler for play as well.

Do the pair. Otherwise one side will have old worn bushes and the other new tight bushes.
