I am getting a worrying knock that coincides with the front offside wheel going over any kind of bump. I thought at first I might have had something loose in the boot, but I'm pretty sure it's coming from the front wheel.
I imagine it's something to do with damper or the wheel itself? Not my strong points! Just wondered if there's anything obvious it could be - it seems to have arisen quite quickly, rather then having developed over a period of weeks/months?
-
could be anti role bar bushes worn.shows itself when running over small bumps/ripples.you get a damn anoying rattle or knock.
had it on my carlton.
:y

worth a search, sure i read on here a list of possibles from busted spring, drop links to loose bumper.

I would have a look at the wishbones as I have had to replace them on both of my meegas seems they like to eat them if it is them you will find that it will also wear out the inside rim of the front tyres you will need to put the car on full lock to check them it nearly cost me a few points some years back as the front o/s wishbone was well worn and I had the dread clunk on bumps and pot holes and when I was stopped in a random check the inside edge of the tyre was down to the canvas I have never been so embarrassed so now I check monthly [paronoid to right] its safer :-[

MUst get my wishbones done as I going through tyres on the inside - the tracking has been done. And I get a clunk when turning the steering wheel.

Sounds like droplinks mate if when going over bumps you get a knocking sound.
About £20 off Flea bay, about an hour to fit the pair :y
-
agreed drop link rather than wishbone
-
I had the same symptoms whenever I turned into the end of my road, noise from o/s/f when going over rough road surface.
Replaced Drop links (£20 flebay) and the noises were no more.
-
same issue here drop links sorted it
-
wear on inside. Wishbones/camber is out. Nothing do do with tracking. See wheels in motion web site for FULL geometry set up and phone for advice prob.best.
Knocking is Drop links probably.
Seperate issues by sound of it, but wishbones tend to knock while turning wheel in my experience. Hope helps.

we had a customer who used to complain of a 'knocking' noise when going over rough terrain, we spent weeks going over everything.....
the noise was there, but nothing was loose or faulty or out of tolerance, it transpires the customer had bought the car from a warring couple who were going through a very bad and messy divorce.
She wanted the car, he didn't want her to have it so he dropped half a dozen large metal ball bearings into the fuel tank, these would bang around and finally sent the woman to the point where she had enough of the car and sold it just to spite the Ex.
Finally when we took the tank out we found them, boy were we relieved to get that one out of the garage

Hello,
I too had the knocking noise. The wishbones elastic gaskets were out.
-
Hi, do the drop links first they are about £7 each and easy to do. also check the front springs as they can snap at the bottom.
-
Agreed likely to be drop links - also cheapest and easiest option.
-
As usual, great info and advice. Thanks all - drop links it is! See if that sorts it ;)
-
can somebody post a picture or pm me some picture of wishbone and drop links that i can see what is what cause i don't know that english terms for parts. i guess what is what but to be shure cause i have a knocking problem too
-
That's a wierd coincidence because I was about to post the same request as VRBA! I've looked around the site and can't see a pic which shows the various bits (although there is a How To guide without pics).
-
Take your front wheel off & you'll see one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-ANTI-ROLL-BAR-DROP-LINK-NEW_W0QQitemZ250214360820QQihZ015QQcategoryZ10404QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247)

Cheers Andy! :y
-
was told they are £8 from non dealer garages, VX were ready to charge £30!!!!
-
Not saying that the above advise is not good, but I had a CDX Estate once that was knocking over bumbs, turned out to be a loose NS front Bumber!.
Worth a check and an easy fix.
-
As an alternative, have a feel around the saucer shaped thing that the front spring sits in. You may find the bottom bit of the spring loose in there (I did) - about 4" had broken off and sat in the tray, just rattling when driving over bumps.
-
hi, the last two omegas ive had have had knocking from the front.
mine was like a thud when i came up the small kerb onto my drive or speed bumps & a rummble over pot holes.
they both turned out to be wishbones.
try a bar in between the wishbone & subframe. you will soon see if you have any play in the bushes.
if in doubt then as most of the above people say try the droplinks first as they are the easiest & cheapest.
think i got a pair of wishbones of fleabay for around £50 inc post which were good quality & i had car another two years after without any problems. hope this helps :o

ANTI ROLL BAR LINKS OR WISHBONES
-
Just to report back - drop links finally done and the noise is gone!!
Far be it from me to offer tekky advice on here (!) but I really struggled to get one of the old drop links off - they are held on by a locking nut which seemed to get tighter rather than looser. Anyhow, after much cussing I realised I could easily get a junior hacksaw to the stubborn nut, and after 5 mins it was off! Obvious I s'pose but for me it was an achievement! May be of help to someone.
I must say that they Ebay site that sells drop links at £6.99 each may be cheap (Parts Warehouse I think?) but their service was cr@p. They got our postcode wrong = 24 hrs delay, then delivered to the wrong number house (or that's what they say)= 5 days delay. They turned up after a week and I was not happy.

I had the same and it turned out to be the wishbone rear bushes trashed, also signs were inside edge of the tyres going bald !!
