Title: autobox oil change, filter and dextron2?
Post by: feeutfo on 14 July 2008, 15:39:26
went to parts at burnham slough for hbv, also got plugs and wanted all to do gearbox oil change. They had the gaskits no bother, but i asked if it had a filter as i could not remember if it just had a magnet or a filter as well, he said yes has filter £69:o
Question is,  i dont suppose this can be cleaned and re used by any chance?
Also he says dextron 3 has been superseeded by dextron 2 and that is all they stock, is 2 ok or does it have to be 3? Thanks.

JPAT are cheapest for filters.

And its DIII (the DIII used in Omegas PAS was superseeded with a DII variant for other reasons). Don't use DII in Omega autobox.

There's also the chap in the back of straight 6 news who sells kits of gaskets plus filter for 35 ish IIRC.

The filter could probably be washed out with a bit of paraffin and dried but I figured for 35 quid it might as well be changed.

Please only use Dexron 3 in the autobox, the filter can cleaned as long as it is not damaged, you can use paraffin.

Marks DTM cleaned the filter in my tractor.  2 weeks later, the box went bang.

Not his fault though - reason we were doing the atf was due to box misbehaving.

Sadly, the replacement box only lasted about a month :(

thanks for help guys, will do 3, was pretty sure it would be so did not buy his nasty dex2 i think he  ran out of 3 and was trying to make a sale. Done the bloody hbv, 3 cuts and a wacked with a spring clip fore finger. What was wrong with the old clips with the bigger tab on both sides? The tinkers. Tryed googling JPAT filters  ,no sign. Will look further tom.
Thanks again.
