Title: autobox opinoins please?
Post by: philglasgow on 14 July 2008, 15:56:28
Hi folks

i run my car on wvo mix and was fitting a facet pump to help things flow better  due to me being able to idle car for 25 minutes then it would suddenly start to suck the life out of my plastic inline filter which alas is another story, however i had the rear wheels jacked up with the engine running for a few hours or so whilst doing this  but when i dropped jack  the autobox message flagged up and wont clear, ive tried disconnecting battery for 30 minutes no joy, i even jacked up the front for a few hours   ::) in case all the oil ran to the magnet originally.

I have the gaskets ,filters  coming from my son who works for a dealer but no access to ramps so its going to done in street alas

Any opinions offered would be appreciated.

Drive the off side wheels onto the kerb to give a bit more room to drop the sumps.

But why do you want to idle the car for 25 minutes?

Check that the autobox breather pipe is correctly located at the back of the engine and hasn't dropped down.

I think you are right to focus on fluid change for starters.

Why so long?

BMW 2.5 TD does have cooling issues so i hope you keep the coolant system in good nick, and 3k oil changes!

If it's collapsing an inline fuel filter I guess you have fuel supply issues, maybe due to running a more viscous fuel. There is already a lift pump in the tank but I understand these are prone to failure. Might be worth checking the existing pump before anything else.

Sorted the autobox fault , fuse 9 had blown  :)
I dont idle for that long all the time but it shouldnt cut out if i want to so  but when in drive its just not getting the fuel for some reason  but it can suddenly just start to diecrushing the inline filter ( which is plastic so possibly not up to job maybe? the facet pump goes up to 4 bar, i can hear it running   and the original pump worked just i know their not the best especially with wvo .

Thanks for the help guys  much appreciated. :y
