Title: Please help
Post by: Dizzy on 15 July 2008, 11:04:21
Hi

Can anyone help me, i have recently bought an 1996 Omega 2.0gls Auto - very nice car with great milleage and I love it - however i have two little niggles.

1. It did not come with an Alarm/Central locking fob - is this correct? If it should have one any ideas on the best place to get one.

2. The small digital screen in the dash board that shows the time, Temperature etc - only shows parts of the numbers - can this be fixed?

I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hi Dizzy and welcome to the forum :)

Im pretty sure your Omega should have come with a remote. The best thing to do is buy a second hand one and get it reprogrammed but you will need a car pass which should have come with your car and has things like key No and stereo code on it. If you haven't got the car pass then you can get one from Vauxhall, but it will cost.

Its a common fault for the pixals and the screen to pack up and its best to replace the screen with a good secondhand one. There are a few people breaking Omegas in the wanted section, PM them and ask for the bits you are after ;)

The boy(on here) helped me no end with this. Vx wanted 95 for a key, and then programme on top of that. Thiefs. Worth a pm perhaps? Or he may well be along in a bit. Dont spend any cash til you speak to him, he has tech 2 so can prog. But where are you? fill in your profile, it will help others with advise. Hope he going to the wim meet i need a second key doing.  :y

You need to make sure you get the right display for the car too - there are different versions around and you need the right one.

MIDs do but TIDs don't.  My guess is that this is a TID so pretty much any screen that is working will fit.  Key thing is the plug,  AFAIK there are three types, yellow plug, grey plus and some have yellow and black.  I do know that you can interchange the TIDs on veccys with omegas - did it myself, but to do it you need to swap the internals over

Best to look out for one on here being broken

Give 'Markey Mark' a buzz from the forum or try Dixons for vauxhall spares in Rothwell, they should be able to help you with a new screen, piss cheap. They can be repaired but easier to buy replacement.
