Hi there
I have a '97 2.5 V6 CDX auto
I was wondering how many miles this sort of engine will realistically do before it gets too worn out to justify spending big bucks on?
Mine has done 110,000 its got FSH, everything works and its a pleasure to drive and the body work is in great nick.
I've thought about chucking money at it in the form of wider alloys, stainless pipe etc etc but is it really worth it if the engine has only got a few years left?
I was wondering what the highest mileage car any other forum users have?
Also can anyone advise me on the price (or where to get) a stainless twin pipe system for this car?
Cheers 8-)

V6 engine, if well maintained (3/4k oil changes) ect... is good for 200k

The life span of the engine will depend largely on how it's been driven and how it's been looked after -- sort of "how long is a piece of string" question :-/
I have come across engines happily running sweetly on twice your current mileage -- but then also knackered 50K examples.

ive seen a 2.5 v6 taxi with 370k on it!

My 1997 2.5 V6 is on 199K and running very well.
As the man says change the oil and clean the breathers.
Most of the money I have spent in the last 4 years is on suspension, wishbones, track rod ends, bushes, the only things I spent on the engine was a new water pump, plug leads, and two set of cam cover gaskets.
I just love my miggy but wish it did not drink petrol

Hi i have one with 190,000 and still going strong, just remember to do the cambelt every 40,000 and oil change regularly.

Prior to the heater matrix going on my last mega it had gone past 225k with very regular servicing and oil/filter changes every 6k.Yours is a youngster and should (with proper servicing)go for atleast another 100k if you can still afford the fuel !!!

i sold my 2.5 with 165,000 on it and it was still going very well indeed....
That said i bought a 96,000 mile 2.6 and it had two holes in the block where the conrod had tried to do an escape act, this was due to poor maintainence.....
at least 200K i would expect to see if it is well looked after

just did the head gaskets at 186,000

[smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]Depends how much you put in to it, keep it in good nik, fix problems as soon as they arise, (there will be some, unfortunately, as with any car) service regularly and diligently, and it will reward you with mileage unheard of with most modern cars, and there by save you a small fortune, even with the fuel bills. Neglect it however, and its possible to spend an extremely large amount of money trying to replace it with something of similar size and spec, that wont last a 3rd as long.
Fortunately, you have come to the right place... Welcome to OOF. :y
Ps. Just got back from the pub.
