Title: Exhaust...
Post by: SweetOmega on 16 July 2008, 15:18:20
Hi,

I just got delivery of; CAT down exhaust pipes- they are the two middle one and the tail/end exhaust box.

Phoenix Vx, Wimbledon supplied all three with the following part numbers.
93181162 - Muffler mid left side      £75 + VAT
93181157 - Muffler mid  right side   £73 + VAT
93181187 - Muffler Tail box            £78 + VAT

They look completely different to the original ones on the car.

The original tail/end box on the car has these two numbers on the box next to the GM mark.  90448490 and 247110300. All the original pipe connections on the car are secured with two bolts/ nuts all the way uo to thye CATs.

These are my observations...
- the original tail box is square with rounded edges and has ribs indented on the bottom of the box.  But the the supplied one (93181187) is round/oval without any indented ribs at the bottom or connecting clamps to the middle pipes.

- the original middle pipes (with the small square box with rounded edges) had ribs indented on the bottom. But the the supplied ones are round/oval without any indented ribs at the bottom or connecting clamps to the CAT pipe.

I have informed Phoenix and they are investigating...

Are the above part numbers correct for a 1998 Omega CDX Auto Saloon with A/C ?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

With kind regards,

Sounds like you have replaced your original OEM Vauxhall genuine exhaust system with a cheap aftermarket exhaust...may well fit ok, but wont be as good wont last as long and certainly wont sound as good...

can you send them back?  :'(

Cat back with GM parts cost £220 on trade for a saloon, fitted to both mine and my dads. GM ones are MUCH MUCH quieter, and last so much longer.

Pattern exhausts are false economy and will barley last 2 years, and sound awful!

Hi Chris,

is there a way to identify the genuine OEM exhaust system?

Cheers

GM is stamped on the silencer, with part number.

All three Phoenix supplied items have only "GM" stamped on the bottom of the box. Does this mean they are original despite they don't look the same ?

Cheers

Sure you have original on the car at the moment?

Mark told me a lot of them dont come with clamps anymore, so I ordered some.

As it happens both (ive ordered 2 latley) came with clamps

Can you post a photo of what you have?

I had exactly this.  I think GM have changed their supplier.  I must admit that the new zorst is not super quiet.  THey are stamped GM and mine came with the internal GM delivery label on it

Just 2 minutes ago vx van turned up and exchanged the old ones for these ones... they still don't look like the original ones on the car though..

I could not take the pics of the ones that vx took back... these are exchanged items.

My original square tail box which is on the car, when it was working OK it was very, very quite and gave a nice unique exhaust sound.

From what I gather from various sources that Vx supplied replacement new shape ones even though they are quite, do not match the original OEM ones in terms of shape, build quality and sound.

Does anyone know the manufacturer of the original OEM exhaust kit?

cheers

Look very like what I've just bought, except mine being the twin exit pipes.

Both ends of mine are blacked too.

for what its worth those are the right part numbers according to the yellow book (for a prefacelift 2.5 saloon).

That's weird they look exactly like the pattern ones I got from my local parts supplier a month ago. Even the welding discolouration and the sprayed black tip

Actually I swear they are the same. Mine fitted perfectly fair doos, albeit the centre boxes had dents in 'em like yours and they have a slight sporty rasp to them. I'll try and see if they're stamped tomorrow morning

It would help if you could check whether they are stamped with GM and some numbers ??

I am so dissapointed with the quality of the product..the joints are not welded properly and it looks like home made....

Cheers
