Hi,
I have noticed over the past week or so I have had a water leak. Well, today I managed to track down the area it is coming from.
It is the rear of the engine on the passengers side. Both the heater hoses and the HBV are bone dry?
Any ideas where it might be coming from?

I'll bet you a pound, it's still turns out to be HBV ... Just from my experience... I also didn't actually SEE it dripping from HBV. But it was leaking nevertheless... Just change it, it's cheap.

Ho ho ho.... it's a 1998 model too :'(
I don't think it will be the HBV in that area. First port of call is coolant bridge, valley, oil cooler plate and stat checks. But I'd advise you to get a mirror behind the engine and up round the 246 exhaust manifold.
This has happened too many times on 98 models to be a co-incidence!

Just a suggestion, is it coolant? has your level dropped? or have you started using the aircon in this humid weather. the amount of water that comes from the drain tubes (at the rear of the engine) looks like a serious leak but is just collected condensation.
Not wishing to question your inteligence but its an easy and free solution.

Thanks for the heads up, but yes it is coolant (tastes like it) and the level is dropping.

What is HBV? as I have a coolant leak on my 2001 2.6 V6 but coolant seems to be eminating from the drivers side of the engine :-/

Sounds like HBV too.
"Heater By Pass Valve"
A valve that lets water into the heater matrix, common for these to go.

I had Cool Carl Aircon come round today for an aircon service and top up ans the car must have been running for 30-45mins at 1500 rpm without a drop leaking...wierd eh?
I thought maybe I overfilled the coolant this morning before going out, but why would it "overflow" from the back of the passenger side cylinder bank?
I will have to keep an eye on it and next Saturday, we are driving to South Wales, so that will be a good test!!!

Just changing my head gasket mainly because having sorted a previous leak which I believe was from the coolant transfer pipe at the back of the engine was still losing coolant slowly (header tank full every couple of weeks) and there was an increse in the amount of mayo in the filler neck. Any way when I (eventually) got the near side head off and took off the DIS bracket I found this behind it.

still trying to convince myself that there was also a breakdown in the head gasket beween a the coolant and oil drain path but it would not surprise me if this was responsible for most if not all of it. Can't imagine there is any way it could have been replaced in situ but Mark will probaly tell me it can. ;D
Cost 87p ! Lets hope this isn't the cause of yours Mike. More likely to be coolant bridge or collant transfer pipe in my opinion.
