Title: Should the engine warning light come on ?
Post by: the_bed_wrecker on 20 July 2008, 12:27:21
Hi,
Should the engine warning light come on when key in position 2 (before start) ?
Got problems on mine with LPG and sometimes the gearbox plays silly buggers but the engine management never comes on.
Cheers

Can I just try and clear something up on the EML lights?

There are two lights on my dash and I want to figure out which one is the EML.

There is one icon which is a picture of a car and a spanner.  On my car this does not even have a bulb in the holder so obviously does not light up at any satge.

I also have an icon which is of an engine block.  This one does light up and then go off when I turn the ignition on. I used to always think that this was the EML but I am not sure now.

So which is which?!

Thanks
Richard

The one looking like the engine block is for Exhaust Emissions... the one with the spanner is for Engine electronics / transmission electronics or imomobilizer ,  if the one with the spanner lights up its a fault in electronics ... if the same one flashes its the immobilizer.....the engine block one if it lights up its a fault in the exhaust emmissions ...if it flashes its a fault that may damage the cat converter .... according to my car manual anyway  HTH :y

Prefacelifts:
1 eml - engine block picture. If flashing, immobiliser.

Facelifts:
2 emls,
engine block pic - emissions issue. If flashing, do not use car.
car with spanner - engine ecu detected sensor abnormality.  If flashing, immobiliser issue.
