Title: Manual gearbox size/torque capacity
Post by: philhoward on 26 July 2008, 16:36:23
This might sound a strange question - but can anyone tell me the height and width of a manual gearbox?  Specifically the centre section as it might be going in a narrow chassis space.
Also - I believe there are 2 - R25 and R28, supposedly 250Nm and 280Nm rated.  Is there an R35?  Or are these torque figures "safe" -i.e. they will take more?

My mind is off at a tangent at the moment - weighing up options on idea for something...

Cheers...but don't have a Manta Getrag to measure...its the bare box i'm looking at - the bellhousing is another issue.

Are the 4-pot and V6 ones the same bellhousing fitment?

4 pot and v6 different bellhousing...

Unfortunately dont have a manual box lying about atm but remember it being shorter and a bit thinner than the auto box...by a fair bit I believe...thought there was only an R28...and yes 280Nm torque, the 25 and 35 being the auto boxes i.e. AR25 and AR35

That'd be grand, Mark..basically the height and width at the main centre section.  I've got an idea in my head, but the tunnel in the chassis I have in mind is quite small (175x200mm from memory).

Overall length would be handy - if you don't mind?  If the size looks right, then is it a 2.0 one?  Smaller bellhousing might help things a lot..

Looks like the only difference is the bellhousing so that'll be fine...Ta!
