anybody any idea what it means when my info display comes up with 'oil lack'. i dont think it means low on oil as ive seen it display 'oil level low' once when i was parked on a funny angle.
the twice it has shown 'oil lack' i have been towing hard so maybe it could be something to do with the engine oil temperature.
i have obviously checked the oil level & its just a couple of mm below the maximum mark.
the car is omega elite 3.0 manual
any help would put my mind at rest
thanks

i have also had this before however i also have had the check oil level warning , i believe the following
check oil level = oil low (check)
oil lack = no oil (refill)
however i believe there is a sensor in the sump that can play up and cause this error message, my old sintra did it all the time even though it was full of oil

It means what it says. Lack of oil, however if your dipstick is showing that the level is actually correct, I would suspect the level switch at the back of the sump on top.

thanks for replies, if it was the level sensor in the sump wouldn't it be showing oil level low.
ive looked in the original owners manual & it lists all the other faults but not the oil lack.

OIL LACK and OIL LOW are same thing. Some MIDs say one, others say the other.
If your oil level is around half way up or less, top it up. If its nearer max mark, likely a knackered sensor.

I sometimes get the oil lack warning when at cruising speed on the motorway. On checking the oil level its just above half stick. When topped up to the upper mark, the warning goes away again. As TB says, top up the oil and if it does not fix, then rubber ducked sensor.....
-
My pre-facelift omega used to say OIL LACK when driving along the motorway, usually when slowing down or going off a slip road. CHECK OIL LEVEL would come on when the engine had been stopped, and the ignition turned on ie. engine not turning.
Anything below about half-dipstick would do this.

ok thanks everyone. ive topped it right up to the max mark & will see how it goes. ive got a scrap v6 so might swap the sensor over next time i change the oil.
thanks again

When I remove dthe lower sump pan on mine, one of the wires broke off at a connection (somewhere - I can't remember now) cos the wiring had become quite brittle due to where it lives.
