:)hi im new to this site,my ecu light came on last week ,took car in to have checked out on computer .codes;0335,0340,0351,0352 on display havn't a clue wot these mean.before light comes on car looses power then misfires splutters rev counter goes mad then engine cuts out help please :)
-
What engine? I'm guessing 2.0 or 2.2 petrol?
-
0340 - camshaft sensor
0335 - crankshaft sensor
0351 - ignition coil 1 and 2
0352 - ignition coil 3 and 4
Give the cam sensor a clean and see if there is any difference. If 2.0 litre - take ecotec strip/spark plug cover off, timing belt cover off and then remove the sensor that sits in between the two cams. Lift it out upwards. Clean the metal part of the sensor and it's mating faces then re-fit.
Hopefully you won't need to change anything else - the cam sensor brings all sorts of weird and wonderful codes up when it's not working properly. It's an easy place to start and can often fix all codes with just a clean.
-
ignore misfire codes until crank and cam sensors resolved.
-
rickyboy will help you out all the way he helped me out and my car now runs like a dream :y :y
-
mine went a bit like yours and ended up being the cam sharft sensor cost £25 for the part and rickyboy to explain how to do it which was pretty simple and bobs ur uncle and fannys ur aunt :) :)
-
Glad to hear your car's back to good health Max! :y
-
:)yes it's 2.0 so by changing cam & crank sensor should hopefully solve sum of probs,is the cam & crank sensor easy to change ?is this what is causing rev counter to go mad? :-/
-
Cam sensor is a doddle - so start with that. Read my first post it will tell you how to take it off. If you look at the ecotec strip the sensor itself is plugged in at the front of it.
Crank sensor can be more tricky especially if you have air con.
-
As of the rev counter - could be the speedo clocks aren't pushed home into the dash. Does the temp gauge work? If the temp guage isn't working as well as the rev counter then either the wiring from the ecu temp sensor is frayed/split or the spade connector is not on tight enough.
-
yes it has got air con,all gauges are working fine except the rev counter when ecu light comes on,thanks for your first post i will give it a clean & let you no the out come
-
I have exactly the same problem on my 2000 2.0 GLS Auto.
I have just cleaned the cam sensor, but the problem still exists. Would it be wise to replace to cam sensor before moving onto the crank sensor? - and where is the best place to buy a cam sensor??
Thanks
mark
-
Just replace the cam sensor and all should be well again - if you have paperclipped to confirm you have a 0340 code in there. :y
-
Yep...codes are:
0340
0335
0351
0352
So..will look for a cam sensor tomorrow. what..about £30 ??? :question
-
Help required here too on this subject although mine is a v6. Light has just come on but have no aparrent mis-firing or juddering. never done this before in 18 months of ownership. Anyone in my area with a fault code reader i could use would be brill ( by pure bad luck the wife's Corsa has the same light on)
Cheers......
Keith......
-
Which year Omega, Keith? There may be a "free" way to DIY to get the codes..
-
Its a 1999 pre facelift on a Vplate bud. What do you have in mind?
-

0340
0335
0351
0352

Don't know the price but they're fairly inexpensive - £30 should be about right. Make sure you buy a genuine vauxhall sensor or you may end up needing to buy another.
-
The Paperclip test... I should have the link on copy and paste, but don't! You'll find it in either Tenchical or the FAQ sections - takes 2 minutes (1 min 30 secs to find a paperclip)...
-
Keith - it's in Maintenance guides :-[

-
Oh jeez it looks kinda complicated to me. even though there is no aparrent running issues does it meen its giong to let me down big time?
-
ok just done a test on it but couldn't make head nor tail of what it was telling me( by the way i couldn't watch the video of it been done) it did a few flashes at first in quick succession "whats tha about? then i counted i thik 7 more flashes??
-
It will first flash a sequence, for example - 3 flashes in quick succession then a pause and another 7 flashes. That would mean your fault code is 37.
-
Keith - first time, it looks like random, but for each set of flashes, there's a space which takes the same timespan as a flash, i.e.
flash gap flash flash gap flash gap flash flash gap flash gap flash flash gap
is "12" three times..it should do this at the start of the sequence.
If you lose track, just turn off the ignition, back on and then start again. Even if you just post how many groups of flashes there are (i.e. 2 1 2 1 3 1 1 2) then we will probably be able to decipher it!

About £50 from the dealers ;)

Was gonna ring a couple of motor factors locally, or try and get my friendly neighbourhood garage to order me one.
-
Only fit a genuine Vx cam sensor, or your problems will re-occur.
-
I have the same problem on my 2.2 lit petrol, although it doesn't occur very frequently (yet) and only for a short period of time. This mostly happpens in hot weather.
Cam sensor the best guess here? Is it placed the same as on 2.0 lit?
Thanks!
-
yes it is placed the same position i believe but the 2.2 cost a bit more than the 2.0 about 80.00 I think with vat from the main dealers.
-
Ok, just phoned a local motor factors....and they have qouted me £38 + vat.
Problem is that they say there are two types listed (both virtualy same price). Does anybody know the part number (to sae me stripping it back off the car and putting it back on so I can go drive to the factors).
Car is W (2000) 2.0l GLS Auto. I am pretty certain when I took it off for cleaning yesterday it was a Siemens model?....(pretty certain butnot 100% :-/

What year is yours? Can you paperclip it?

Could be anything bringing up the code tbh. You would be better getting the codes read by a garage or buy yourself a cheap tech 2 code reader to get the codes yourself.
You may be able to do the pedal trick although I've not yet seen it work on a 2.2. Press the accelerator and the brake pedal to the floor with the ignition off. Keep the pedals pressed down then turn the ignition onto position 2. If the engine management light starts to flash write down the sequence.
There is absolutely no guarantee your camsensor is at fault without the relevant code to confirm it. You may end up throwing your money in the fire.
-
hi again guys,
Silly question...but I would just like quick confirmation on my engine type so I can order a new cam sensor.
Car is as on left.........2000 (W plate) 2.0L GLS Auto. Am I correct in saying the engine is X20XEV ????
Thanks
-
Can anyone confirm the above...I am keen to order today so I can have the part on tuesday.

asautocare in wigan(?) if i remember correctly. The 2.2 has no
Way of flashing codes as far as we know. So you need a
tech 2 diagnostic. Dont quote me on the name but i saw it
On here somewhere tech 2 diagnostic for 30 quid. Worth a
search. Hope helps.

bloody hell. Have we gone mad with error codes recently or
what? Rickyboy been busy with the 4 pots. Given up counting
On quoting the pedal trick! Anybody fancy doing a guide?

Tell me about it, engine lights and omegas seem to have a real love for each other, never apart for too long! I think you may have just nominated yourself to do the pedal trick guide! ;D :y
