Ive just found that the door strap where it connect inside the door has broke, flexing has caused the mounting to break. I expect this will need welding or a plate fabricated, unless someone else has had the problem.
-
Many of us have -- it's a common fault.
There is a field repair kit for this by Vx -- although mine was "cured" by using penny washers either side of the original mounting and bolted through.
If you search back through the help section you will find other references to this.

its caused by ware in the plastic door bush. A washer
That takes the play out of the hinge that bolts to
The chasis. 99p from vx. But the system they have
Will only give them the part no. for the whole check
Strap, which is £26 odd. The part no. is on here
somewhere. Worth a search, hope helps.

You don't the need the plastic bushes, click on the second of the suggested links, it's the two metal plates and screws you require. :y

If you need to change the internal mounting bracket, I found pop rivets just as good as spot welds, saves all that heat and paint damage.
I have some photos of the repair if it will help.

Not for the check strap plate repair, no. But if the
door is clicking or "cracking" as it pops in and out of the
Check strap cut outs, then the bush will stop the
Cracking and save the plate from breaking in the
future. Obviously if it broke from over extending
The door, then the bush will not help!

Thanks for all ur replies, on checking again the metal around the mechanism has torn in 2 places, so looking at possible welding, dont know if there is another possible remedy.
-
If not torn too badly, try the field repair kit referred to in the maint guide. For a couple of quid its got to be worth a try. actually works even if the tear looks dreadful. but do it soon as repeatedly opening/closing the door will rapidly make it worse.
Change the plastic bush too - for 15p or whatever its a no brainer.

Here's a pic of my penny washer fix --- not too good I am afraid, as I can't get the camera in behind the hinge to be able to see what I am aiming at -- but it gives the idea!

the field remedy is basically the same principal. there are 2 plates that sandwich the torn bit - one on the inside of the door, the other in the recess where you can see the washers in Holy Count's pic.
-
thanks again for ur replies, im gonna try to do the repair kit and take a trip to VX. i had a closer inspection and the metal has tore above and below the bolts by about 1cm. Mike collins if u have pics would be appreciated if i end up having to change the mount. :y

It'll be a big file, can your email handle several photos?
-
My email can handle 10mb files, maybe u could compress into a zip file may make it smaller.
