Title: Wrecked?
Post by: toller on 31 July 2008, 19:39:25
Been a while since I posted as i've had no probelms with the car for what seems like ages.

Anyway my Omega has now suffered some fairly serious damage so i'm just wanting some advice on costs of reapir and if it's even worth me bothering.

As i was loading the car up last night I put my 4 year old son in first and then went to get some more stuff.  Once back in the house i looked out of the window to see the car rolling backwards down the road.  I shot outside chasing the car and managed to get the drivers door open to try and put the handbrake on but couldn't manage it in time with the result being the car hit a brick wall smashing all the back end of the car up and folding the drivers door across the wing all the time with me trapped between the car and the wall (very very scary)

The door is totally destroyed and the wing panel is kind folded and creased two and the back of the car around the filler cap is a real mess.

To look at it and considering the value of the car i'd say it's probbaly a write off but does anyone know how much I could rougly be looking at.

Should have been a good day today as I passed my full bike test but the car incident has totally ruined my week.

Tip of the day:

Don't leave young children in the car on their own.  Luckily I live on a private road with no other cars or people but had it been busy then things could have been much much worse.

Hi, Toller. Sorry to hear about the accident -- but, on the other hand, glad to hear that no-one was hurt.

What age is the car ?  Sounds, though, it might well be a write off. Doors and wing are one thing -- but that back quarter will be a swine to get straight for little money

i never used to worry to much about body work.
If i damaged it or had a hit and run, i would just wait
Until someone drove into me. 5 non fault accident
In as many years, 2 in one day once! Both on the
drivers front corner. Pair of brand new projector
Head lights and re sprayed bumper. The first guy got
away with the claim tho, as no damage to myn but i
big hole In his 7 series bm.
Anyway. Can it be made legal to get you by? Door from
A breakers etc?

Garage have been out to collect it today and he said pretty much straight away that it''ll be written off.

I thought about getting a door from the breakers but all the door hinges are mangled too so it still wouldn't close.

Bit of a bummer but still got the motorbike so at least i'm not toally stuck for transport this time.

Heard from the garage who took the car today.  He says they stopped counting when they got to £3000 :)

Guess i'll have to see what the insurance company says now.

I actually regret getting them involved now,  should have thought about it more before putting a claim in but a bit too late now.
