Title: Autobox project loads of fear- thrust washer parts
Post by: Varche on 29 July 2008, 14:51:44
Hi

PROJECT LOADS OF FEAR

I have decided to follow the forums advice and change the disintegrated thrust washer on my AR25 gearbox.

First step has been to construct two sturdy parallel and horizontal walls 3 metres long and 43 cm high on a smooth reinforced concrete pad. That is now very nearly finished. That should get the car up in the air enough and be good for doing other jobs on it too.  :y

Second step is to obtain the necessary parts from JPAT. They have posted stuff to me before here in Spain. Looking at the excellent how to guide by Sassenach  www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1183142571 and the pages of PDF parts lists(GM 4L30E) on the JPAT site I have identified the thrust washer but can't find the parts numbers for the O ring and the paper gasket identified in step 11.

Can anyone help please with these part numbers and add anything else I am going to need before I ring them up?

varche

PS I call it loads Project Loads of Fear 'cos it is our only car and we live miles from anywhere! Nearest Opel dealer is 40 miles away.

might be worth a pm to Mark dtm for advice?
Brave indeed, but it must be doable.
Best of luck with it.

Well if you do find bits of thrustwasher then the box will be no worse than it currently is when you change the fluid.... you'll just know that there's further work to do.

Thanks for all the encouragement. Necessity is of course the mother of all invention and a great motivator. Having done a DIS pack, plug leads, breathers etc and ABS unit "the Boy" said I could now tackle anything! If it goes belly up I suppose I will have to go back to easier jobs.

The oil and filter in the gearbox has been changed - that was when I found the bits of thrust washer.

Omegatoy PM sent

Sassenach PM sent as I am still confused about what gasket and rubber seal I need from JPAT despite your excellent guide.

Project update and part number help request !!

Have contacted JPAT who need a part number for the Sonnax thrust washer.

"I’ve looked at the lOOF linkyou forwarded, the Sonnax thrust they talk about doesn’t have a Sonnax part number? We carry item 54701-03K in stock, although this washer has the tangs internally as apposed to externally as the picture in your link shows. Can you get the Sonnax part number from anyone on the forum as we cannot see the external tanged washer in the Sonnax product range."

Also does anyone know what gasket and rubber seal is required in step 11 of Sassenach's guide?
