Title: Trade Club?
Post by: newhouse on 03 August 2008, 12:57:34
I seen a couple of post with the above mentioned.

What is this club, how do you join, what are the benefits?

And, does it involve funny handshakes?

No funny handshakes involved!

Benefits are big discounts on parts

i.e.  oil filer for about £1.50 ish, Oil at £9.58 plus VAT (5 litres) plus buy 3 get one free!!!!

Got water pump for £10 less, auxilary belt £10 less, and 2 sensors for £15 less each.

is that the same discounts as with the autobahnstormers one?

mine's autobahnstormers, £20 a year, my card came even before they cleared my payment, and the benefits are HUGE reductions on parts, you get your membership money back in savings on your first purchase!

replaced a rear shock on my elite and saved about £45 on the part, if i'd not had the trade card, would NOT have been a good buy!!

All VBOA clubs, after an initial delay, can provide TC cards.

ABS is generally the recommended one, due to speed of delivery, some Omega relevence, and the fact they do not mind OOF members joining purely for card.

VxON provide TC card and Halfords card, though seem to be desperately slow to send out.  Halfords ones are normally easy to blag anyway.

No, we have no plans to become a VBOA club.

Why? We would have to jump through a lot of hoops, and charge membership.  Our view is, if the member has to pay, may as well pay another club, such as ABS, and let them deal with the management of the cards, and the beaurocracy of VBOA ;)

Varies wildly. Around 80% of some bulbs, to sod all off other parts.  No trade price lists available, so you have to ask each time.

not much but it saves a few quid you used to be able to get 20% off tom toms but they stopped that but before they did i bought a fair few!!

oil filters are 10p more than vx trade price for a 3l v6 that is!

workwear gets a 25% discount and so do tools so its good for that

GM filters are significantly better quality than Halfords own brand, so I'd go for GM ones every time.

I'm intrigued by what you get by pm'ing tmx...  is it how to do a special handshake with the store manager?

Defo worth having though.  I bought a battery - shop price £99, trade price £60.   I've had discount of various other parts too.

I just PM'd him to ask what he thought i might get away with using to blag halfords regarding their trade cards, cos really his reply in my opinion shouldnt really be posted publicly, even though its probably common knowlege anyway ;)

not illegal but basically exploiting a loophole and highlighting the lack of rules the halfords staff should obide by...?

took my ABS card in with my driving license (to prove it was my card) and a receipt from VX to show my most recent trade price purchase, card was given to me without questions about where i work
