For the last 2 years my V6 has been makin the garden look pretty, I thought it was about time to put her back on the road - so I drained fuel tank, coolant, and oil, changed the filters and charged the battery stuck the key in I have power but engine refuses to turn over - I would expect to here the starter motor clicking if it was shot, its a manual '98 estate by the way. Anybody got any ideas - the fml stays on and does not flash so I don't think its the immobiliser, I can also hear a relay powering on when the key is in pos2 and off when in pos1 I am a bit stuck - like my engine any help would be appreciated.

If the Battery was left in the car it may well be knackered. I had exactly the same symptoms, new battery sorted it.
If the voltage is too low then the starter isn't energized at all.

Agreed. Battery will be FUBAR if it's been sitting for 2 years.

Cheers guys, would I still be able to power everything with a dead battery ? everything else seems fine - and even tried to turn over with booster pack no different - think I'll swap battery with mates spare see if it starts then

Might also be worth cleaning up or replacing the spark plugs...

If it's not turning over at all, and the battery is good, check the contacts on the starter motor, and if you can - using some VERY thick cable - connect a battery directly to the starter terminals and see if it spins then.
It's possible the starter has corrosion on the commutator and is not getting enough "oomph" to turn .. if so it may be a tad tricky to clean .. :(
Edit :
I see you have a booster pack .... can you get this to power the starter directly .. just for a test ??

Cheers for the advice I bit the bullet and borrowed my m8's Halfords trade card saved £25 on a battery ! I unplugged sparkies to find they were having an oil bath so I'm following the Very helpful instructions to replace cam cover gaskets. Once thats complete I strap on the new battery and give it a whirl.

You were right it was the battery - cheers to all who offered advice :y :) ;)
