As the tiltle says lads im just wondering hows to turn up the idle on my 2.5. Afaik she should be idling on 8-900rpm, am i right?? Shes on about 5-600 at the moment. Thanks all

500-600 is correct for V6.

Seems very low!!! But il believe ya :) Whats annoying me tho is because its so low the exhaust is rattling a bit!!! Would it be stupid to turn it up a touch??

Yes,,,,, there is no adjustment, the idle is controlled by the ECU via the idle control valve. Maladjusting the throttle stop is a bad idea.
The idle speed should increas slightly as the a/c compressor clutches in and you should be able to hear it compensate for heavy electrical loads.

Sorry - but it needs saying that the exhaust is rattling because its either loose or falling apart (maybe baffles) - it shouldn't normally rattle. So best to fix that :y
check all the rubber bits are in place and that its not rattling against the body (rear heatshield can come adrift and rattle against the top of the back box.)

as can the outer casing on the cat pipes - I think they can be jubilee clipped to get them tighter.
and 5-600 for a 2.5 V6 is spot on - mines always idled there

I had exactly the same problem a couple of weeks back. An annoying rattle which could only be heard at Idle. I took it to a garage and they told me baffles had gone in the exhaust back box. I had the back box changed and its been good as gold ever since :y

The rattle could well be the heat shields and is easily sorted with some large jubilee clips :)

I can't imagine you will notice a difference in performance with a/c off. There should be a full power a/c disable in the ecu.
Loss of comfort certainly.

Well firstly a/c drinks petrol ans at the price these days i cant afford it!! Secondly a/c would be an extra pulley therefore draining more power!! Shes alot more responsive since i took it out!!
I checked the exhaust its the baffles....cheers lads

I can't see a significant difference in fuel consumption display on my 2.6 with a/c on or off.
Theoretical difference maybe but driving with the windows open for cooling increases drag and again, in theory, consumption.
With much older systems I can remember feeling the power loss when the compressor engages.
I'll stick to quiet comfort.

AC has a heavy drain on power when on, but when off, all it does is freewheel a pulley and carry the extra few kgs around. I wouldn't remove it for performance...

If you want to save fuel then why on earth would you want to increase the idle speed ?? I travel with the climate control on nearly all the time and get an average fuel return of about 23 - 24mpg travelling to and from work about 12 miles and on a long run cruising around the 80s anything up to 31mpg. This engine is more than capable of powering everything fitted and then some.
With your aircon dissabled you will have no de-humidifyer :o I wonder how you are going to get your windows demisted in the bad weather ::)
