Title: 2.2 HBV replacement
Post by: Shaman61 on 02 May 2008, 12:45:33
Anyone got any tips for changing the HBV on a 2.2 or even a tip for a decent tool for one handed removal of hose clips, it looks a right idiot of a job.

Mole grips work well, as do hose clip removal pliers you can get for a few quid in Halfords.

Never done it on a 2.2 though sorry

correct ;)

tools should include plasters and a swearbox..

seriously i recommend a small set of molegrips - much more useful investment than specialist host clip pliers.

Seem to remember that you can get to it from underneath if on a lift or ramps, still awkward though.
One pair of hands from above and another from below??

it is a right idiot of a job but is doable if you remove wipers and scuttle from top or if you have small hands and arms then try fron underneath !! :y

I just replaced mine...main dealer wanted £170 + parts... got the part for about £30 & fitted it in about half an hour...  Take the 2 hoses on one side off first then pull up &  take the single hose off...used plumbers grips...  Only thing is my heaters not blowin hot so looks like it needs bleeding...

Bit easier on 2.2, but even on v6 not a bad job :y

Any idea why the heater might not be blowing hot?...

Either airlock, as suspected, or a constant vac to the hbv...

I'm not so sure - on the 2.2 (and my 2.0, that you'll remember me doing) you have to get it from underneith, which means a soaking ;D

V6 it is mounted higher up and I can get my hands in there with the scuttle off...

Out of preference, I'd rather do a V6 ;D
