Title: oil usage

is it normal to put about a litre of oil the engine around every 5 weeks, im doing about 250 miles a week. not much more than that. ive no oil leaks around gaskets or sump.

Depends mate... Has been discussed before... some use none at all. Others use upto a L per 1000 miles... or thereabouts.


Entirely individaul it would seem  :y :y

Mine uses none between changes. But have had other cars that gulp it.

As long as all the system is good with no leaks... no worries mate  :y

my rover used a lot of oil, and a hell of a lot of water, hence the 2 head gaskets blown in 5 yrs, nothing else ever went wring with it.

Rovers seem to be prone to HG failure. Lots of my friends have rovers... dont know why  :D

Mine has only used that much when the cam cover seals were leaking.
A bit of oil use is not bad thing though.

the spec is 1l per 1000m, but thats to cover arses.  1l per 1000m is excessive
