Title: Electric seat problem...
Post by: PaulW on 12 August 2008, 16:45:52
Before I go stripping more bits from my car, just wondering if anyone has any ideas...

The drivers side electric seat was working fine, but a few weeks ago its movement got a bit restricted.

It used to move forwards and backwards quite a bit, but now its only moving an inch in either direction (front and back), but all the other movements are fine (up & down lift, back reclining)

Is it an easy fix??

Cheers

Coins in the runner seem to be the most popular obstruction.  :y

I'll give it a look, but its not like its struggling, it just 'clicks off' like it used to when it reached its limit before...  just a hell of alot sooner

May be that you have inadvertently set the seat position program memory, my wife did that to me by buggeribg about with the buttons! If not it is more than likely that there is some obstruction in the rails that are causing the early shut off. You could try to WD40 tyhe rails and see if that has any effect.

WD40 is not a lubricant, so won't help much.

Use the windying handle to move over full travel a few times to ensure not sticky sections...

Might have been there when the car  was new in 98/99/etc but mine's been missingsince I got the car. I've never ever seen one, nor have a seen an Elite in the scrap yard to check its tool kit.

tunnie may remember, but from memory, its a square drive - you may be lucky with a perfectly sized screwdriver though...

I've looked under seat to where it would go, and yes it is square .... maybe about 5/32" (4mm)

20p was stuck under the runners...  Out of sight completely, only found it by jabbing a screwdriver down there  ;D

Also I'm ok in regards to a handle, I've got a bit which fits :) so its all good!!!  Happy now, I can move the seat forward to its proper position  :y
