Got my new VX idler arm and tried to fit it.
Got the big end off easy enough. The little end - no way even using the secret method involving two hammers.
What type of joint separator is best to buy off Ebay.co.uk? I cannot find any of mine!

Mine was really tight too. When I had the nut off I filled the gap around the top off the taperd shaft with WD-40 and left it for half an hour. Then went back to it and striking the end of the idler with a hammer (not easy as there is not much room) to shock the area around the ball joint shaft whilst applying some pressure with a lever was enough to separate it. Best to put the nut back loosely onto the ball joint to protect the thread though.

personaly i'd use the wind up scissor type, not keen on bashing the cr4p out of a fork type tool when it comes to steering components (things tend to get bent) :y

That's how I removed mine ....... in the end, knocking ten colours of sh1te out of it 'judicious tapping' ;D on the sides of the taper. It did work in the end .... I think I just wore it down! ;D ;D ;D :y

took the big end off, turned the arm round to face the inside of the car then 3 big smacks with BIG hammer, dropped off no probs. :y
