My wishbone bushes are shot.

oops accidentally hit alt+s...

anyway,

can I replace the bushes or do I need new wishbones.

I want my car to handle really well so am thinking of eventually getting sports shocks and springs. so seeing as I need to sort the wishbones out now for the MOT next month I figured it was worth getting higher spec'd wishbones now, if any even exist.

i heard merle/meyle are a good brand but dont know where to go from there.

advise please!!!!

Yes. You can buy just the bushes from Vx and replace your ones with them.
Bare in mind that you will idealy need a press to replace the bushes.

cool ta.

would the old 'big washer little washer' trick do it? ie using a very long threaded bolt and a mahusive washer to squeeze the bushes in?

Is there any benefit at all in buying bushes from another company? ie performance ones?  do they really make any difference to handling over pattern poly ones?

You will find it a pig to do without a press but you can try. there are no uprated wishbones for the omega that i know of. as for springs and dampers then try to get some irmscher parts, they do come up for sale every now and again.

Carefull you don't bend the wishbones when you press the old one out, they're only fabricated sheet steel. I found that the Senator's wishbones - very similar set up - flexed quite a bit untill I made up something  to support the wishbone on the press when the bushes were pressed out & in.

if you get the bushes from vx i am sure that if you asked a spanner he would happily press them in for you in exchange for a beer voucher or two :D

This is really not worth the hassle. You can buy the wishbones now with all the bushes already fitted at a price cheaper than you would expect. Check out ebay or other motor factors. My guess is that they would be about £30

Beware of cheap Wishbones on Ebay as some will not last a hard winter!

You get what you pay for.

lookup vail68 on ebay.  He sells FAI wishbones for 18.50 a side.

If you're after better performance, if I'm not mistaken, some people on here replace the VX bushes with certain BMW 5-series ones which basically stop the wheels flopping about quite so much under load.

Try a search for 'BMW' and 'bushes' perhaps?

Needs a 10 tonne press, and thats borderline...

Nah, a 6 ton one (bottle jack) on a home made frame pumped until the safety valve is popping (so about 8-9 ton) and then a light tap on the runner with a lump hammer works well.

The correct drifts are the hard thing to get, just like I have in the garage  :y

I had some wishbones from Buypartsby.com a year or so ago - didn't follow the guide on here (what a d1ck) and ended up tightening the n/side up whilst the wheel was hanging low. So its dead 1 year later... and then I read the guide!!  :-[

Just bought some from vail68 on eBay (£45 for a pair delivered) - says they are FAI - either way they must be better than the previous ones I put on - they were a different brand left to right  >:(

Got a set of bolts off Andyc for £9.20+ so jobs' (should be) a goodun!
