I may sound a bot stupid here and I hope I can give an accurate enough description for someone to know what im on about.
Ive been trying to sort a few problems out and I was searching around for any water leaks when I spotted what looks like a pump under the passenger side wheelarch. it appears that a hose goes to it and one comes away from it. The one coming too it from the top of the engine is hot but the one coming away is stone cold and feels solid.
Can anyone tell me what this is and what it does??

I think its the secondary air pump think thats the name.

What does it do ::)

I think it is to do with the injection system but others have mentioned if it makes a noise it can be disconnected.
Might be worth doing a search on here as I dare say there are many threads.

It injects air into the exhaust system to help the cats warm up quicker, however on my car it sounds like Concorde taking off with full afterburners, it can also be disconnected if you wish without causing damage

Secondary air injection pumps extra air into the exhaust while a rich mixture is burning in the engine at initial start up to lean emmissions down such that they do not kill the cats prematurely and to warm the cats up to temp quicker, as far as I know.....
