Quick question... Collected my sensor today on my way past and it's metal cased... The one on the car is plastic. Now I haven't checked the plug yet because I was in a hurry but... Is this an upgraded part or am I likely to have the wrong one?
Hope not because I'm in Yorkshire and it's really playing up now!

I know there are 3 versions.
I had the metal one first, but was a square plug fitment. Mine was an oval plug! So had to go back to the dealer for another one, but there was still two to choose from!!
Just selected one (they looked identical) and it plugged in fine and works fine.
Bonus is oval plug is cheaper than square plug.

Did you get the part number off the old part first? As trebor said, several different types....

On a 1999 it should be the later oval shaped plug with a plastic body.....

I must confess that I didn't have time to get the PN first... However, Andy said that my vehicle reg only listed one part :-/ :-/
The new one has the plug with the rounded corners but has a metal body... I guess I'll start at the top tmorrow and find the plug first to see if they match ::) ::)
Don't suppose there's anyone in the Richmond (North Yorks) area who's got a TC just in case??? I don't thik it'll make it home again as it's cutting out virtually every time you let the engine idle now :( :(

I think EPC is wrong for later 3.0l if he used the filter... ...I've fallen fowl of that myself before...

The other alternative, if the sensor fits (physically) is to transplant the plug... Is this possible???

You were right TB... I had the wrong one!!! Managed to source a Bosch one locally tio get it back moving again but now have issues with damaged 'o' rings on the breather/vacuum box... (had to remove it to get to the connector!!)

Crank... Not cam!!!! And yes... PITA!!
Had to bodge the damaged 'o' rings to get the car running!!!
Does anyone need a genuine metal cased (square plug) crank sensor at a slightly under TC price or shall I just take it back???
See you've broken the new motor already ::) ::)
