Hi all,
does anyone know the volume of water that is contained within the engine? I presume that there is no block-drain plug and therefore I'd like to know how much water is held in the engine, so I can get the right ratio of mixture for the coolant change.
ta muchly,
Andrew

Pre-mix the coolant and deionised water 50:50 before you add it to the engine, that way you know it will be spot on :y
-
The problem is though that because water sits in the engine, I'll never get it all out when I drain it.
So if the total volume of water in the system is 9l and 2l sits in the engine (for example), I'll only be adding a 50/50 mix of 7l.
Or am I missing something really obvious? Quite possibly, it has been a long day......

You saying water, please tell me you dont just have 'water' in the coolant system?
If the coolant is sound, then the proportion of coolant remaining in the system is not that significant in relation to the proportion of new coolant...

You're right - best to refill using 4.5 lit neat antifreeze and top up with water! That way you're guarenteed at least 50% antifreeze :y
-
For water you can substitute liquid/coolant mix. Although there will only be water in it once I've finished flushing out the old coolant.......If the amount is negligable, I won't worry about it.
The total system holds 9 litres though, right?

V6 manual - 9.7 lits
V6 auto - 9.5 lits

That's the method that I was planning on using :y

One more question whilst my mind is on the subject: does the system need to be bled afterwards? Are there bleed screws on the pipes, does it just need to be run with the cap off for a few minutes or is it simply "fit & forget"?
-
Should be self bleeding fella! :y

No bleed valves - just run, with cabin heaters full on, until no more air in system. If necessary gently sqeezing larger hoses can help dispel trapped air.
I've always found these V6s easy to refill and "bleed".
