Ok so sold the gold car, its a 3.0v6 R reg elite...all seems well and running fine but it gets 40 miles or so and suddenly there is water coming out of the top of the radiator from a split in it (top drivers side on the side by where the top pipe comes out of the radiator)...
The guy gets back to mine thankfully and hopefully all is well with him getting to his destination in the spare car...
Anyways, urgently need to swap over the radiator with one I have in the garage...just wondering how possible it is that the split may have been caused by problems with the engine pressurising or something causing the radiator to split...or if its maybe just something that was already there that just happen to worsen and fail on the trip???

AFAIK the header cap incorporates a pressure relief valve .. so you would need 2 faults ... failed header cap AND a massive overpressure to cause a radiator split ... :(
My guess is its been waiting to fail for a while and has just let go...... IIRC the plastic pipe where it fits into the metal radiator is a common-ish point of failure ....
probably wrong ... but thats my guess ..

Hmmm might be worth changing the header tank while I'm at it as its easy to do and have a spare one or two lol
Suspect its just very unfortunate timing but want to try and make as sure as possible :)

Just change the header tank cap....no need to change the tank ;)
