The TIS instruction for fitting rear air shocks does actually state to partially inflate them prior to connecting the pipes.... could be that they hadn't been fitted correctly in the first place or had indeed leaked :-/
Insert shock absorbers into shock absorber dome from wheel housing with piston rod – align shock absorber fastening lug (4) at semi-trailing arm and attach – tightening torque 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft. Install rubber buffer (3), plate (2) and new fastening nut (1) from above – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
Vehicles with vehicle level control: Note installation position of pressure line connection. Charge new shock absorber slightly with compressed air. Raise vehicle. Install pressure line connection on shock absorber.
Install rubber protective cap.
