my old cdx used to bang on engaging reverse when the atf was low, but the brake never came into it, the breaks used to 'creak' a little if you didnt have enough pressure on the peddle. Neither really sound
like your description tho. Strange one.

Auto transmission fluid, change it and I think that should cure your problem.  Sounds like the clunk is down to the box from what you describe.

Have a look at the fluid it is usually red in colour (or has been on other autos that I've changed it on, can someone confirm that on the Omega?) which can end up almost black, if it is black then defo needs changing.

Do you mean you filled the sumps and then bolted them back on?

That is not the correct proceedure and if you only put 4.5 L in then you will be short by 2-3 litres - not good.

You need to fill by pouring through the plug hole in the big sump via a pipe of some sort WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING.  When it starts to overflow, that is the correct level.

Are you sure you don't have a differential problem, it sounds remarkably like the symptoms I had a while back. Mine felt and sounded like the rear brakes were binding or scraping on something, but brakes/discs where ok. The problem and sound of grating sound got progressively worse under hill conditions - up and down. I hope it's not but worth looking into as unfortunately they cheap - I had a grateful donor provide me with a replacement as new one from stealers was quoted at £1800!!!!! :o

Gearbox wise get the engine running and up to temp and take out the filler bolt...if there is gearbox oil coming out still then the box is overfilled...which can be bad for the gearboox too...let it come out :)

If diff is leaking from the front seal I believe the seal can be replaced???

Good grief!! I would never consider selling a 2nd hand diff for more than £100...maybe I'm giving them away at that price lol
