Now i have had this oil leak for ages and as I dont do loads of miles I dont need to top very often, the oil appears to come from front crankcase (i think) & then settles (puddles) if left on the chassis front part directly below the radiator, I think it then blows back onto exhaust giving off the burning oil smell for a while....I have posted cple of pics to show where it is exactly, now as I'm hoping to do the cambelt/waterpump very soon would like some advice on what needs to be done regarding the leak ! On the first pic the oil (puddle) would be to thee right but found it hard to get a decent pic there with camera

Hi Fella,
Are you sure that this is oil?
I had my rocker covers changed recently and the oil residue that is at the front of the engine looks very familier..... I had the engine steam cleaned very carefully and not at the back.
Maybe you should treat it to the same as burning oil smell is undoubtbly the rocker covers or the rear oil seal from the prop to the diff. Vectra cam covers on order please. :y

May well be a bit of water in it but its mainly oil pretty sure !
Will have good look & wipe it clean tomorrow .. :y

If you find out where its coming from let me know as mine is doing the same thing :( I do not think it is engine oil either as I hardly ever need to top it up. The only fluid I do appear to loose is water but thats not that excessive either

Mine looks the same. When I had the plugs changed the top of them were oily too but, no sign of oil down the sides. The guy who change them said that the rocker cover must have a slight leak. but not to worrie

Either the front crankshaft seal or the oil pressure sender. Give the whole area a good clean with carb/brake cleaner and see where it originates from. If its already wet and dirty, it makes source finding all but impossible, in my experience. :y

Mines the same but I,m not sure that there is an oil pressure sender at that location on a 2.2 :-/
How bad a job is it to change the front crankshaft seal?

Ooh Mr dtm will be after you. Fitting vectra cam covers esp. Alluminium ones is not advised. Defo.
The original plastic ones allow the crank case pressure to escape if the breathers are blocked and if the cam covers dont release the pressure the next thing to go is the crank pulley seal. I will bet you have blocked breathers and the oil as from the cam covers. Only a pound mind. Guides in the maintenance section. All well covered on here!
