I have recently noticed my front tires are wearing unevenly. Before I just go get the tracking looked at I thought I'd get some opinions.
Front Near-side = Excessive wear on inner and outer
Front Off-side = Extreme wear on inner only
I am not happy as the tires are not that old, and I think the inner on the front off side is going to go down to the thread before the main part of the tire is anywhere near worn. :'(
I would of loved to go to WIM but its just too far away just for that. Do you think I should just go get it tracked or find somewhere near me that does full geometry etc.
Thanks in advance.

Its not tracking thats an issue....its the camber as its this taht causes extreme localised wear such as you have.
Also check the steering idler given the wear variance on the passenger side.

Yes but, more importantly, you need to get them to set the camber (dont get fobbed off) to about -1.20
The idler arm is mounted on the passenger side inner wing and connects to the steering rod. With the passenger side jacked up grab the road wheel at the 3 and 9 Oclock posiion and wigle it whilst watching the idler arm..........there should be no vertical movement.

Cheers, If anyone knows a place to recommend in the west yorkshire area that would be great.
There is something else I have just remembered, and that is when you grab the off side wheel when on the ground, and rock it (pull) there is a knocking sound, I assumed it would be a bush of some sort but I am just not sure if it is related to the tire wear. I will be getting the knock looked at but the mechanic I use is on holiday atm.

Investigate the noise, it may be related to odd wear.
Inside extreme shoulder wear common on Omegas due to the way the camber adjusts over time. A full geometry check is highly recommended. Might be worth PM'ing wheels-inmotion to see if he is able to recommend somewhere up north...

Cheers Jamie, I will do that

Have you checked the pressure, wear on inner and outer often occurs with underinflation, hope it is that simple for you

If its the shoulders, it would have to be extreme for it to be pressure related - so extreme, even my mum would notice ;D

WIM isnt that far....
1 trip there will pay for itself in wasted rubber very quickly :y

Quite True!!

Pressure is checked regularly so shouldn't be that. wish it was that simple

I'm very glad I made the effort and 200 mile each way trip!
Ljays car was transformed by the geometry and new tyres (VERY competitive tyre prices)
I will be taking mine down soon, very nearly at the rear wear indicators, goes sideways just a little too easily now ;D
(plus a bloody great nail in an irrepairable place (how it keeps pressure I do not know))
Deffo before the Winter sets in!

Maybe it would be worth getting a few names together for a mini meet type thing in the near future, all depends if I can find somewhere up north that can do the job to the same standard

one side "may" be running low pressure but the other def. needs mechanical attention, but its wise to change suspension parts in pairs. Most run 30 to 32psi or as the guide on here.To me, and as the knowledge day at wim more importantly, its worth checking the wishbone bushes springs and idler as said, as play and subsequent replacement of any of these will affect the geometry set up accuracy, and possibly leave you back at square one.
Hopefully its just natural settlement of the car as springs and bushes wear in but chances are you will need to replace the wishbone bushes.
So suggest, speak to wim and get the idea/ importance of it all.
See a mech(or diy), check idler and wishbone bushes for play, and thoroughly check springs for breakages. Then book in for a full geometry set up with an experienced operator who knows the mig settings. Worth a search on all of the above on here as its all been well covered. Hope helps.

Thanks for all the tips, I only wish I was a bit more mechanically minded!! I just have to get other people to do these things for me!!
-
Tony @ WIM has phoned me to discuss options, I need to go get the front end mechanically checked first and go from there, given me some great advice regarding the setup of the car etc.
He said there may be some people not to far from me that can help once the wishbones etc have been checked.
Thats dedication for you, phoning me up to chat about mig setups at 20:10!! Top Bloke!!

Both bottom arms and ball joints have now been replaced ready for the 4 wheel alignment.
Does it matter what state the tires are in to complete the alignment?

Dont think so. They place targets on the wheel rim and set it to that. You may not feel the full benefit until the boots have been changed tho. Give the a bell and ask em, they may well give you a price for tyres as well.
-
Don't do 4 wheel alignment - you need camber and geometry else it's pointless...
-
Yeah thats what I'm getting done, full geometry! just thought 4 wheel alignment was the same thing
-
yes, full geometry set up. I thinks thats probably what you ment. The motor trade general answer to tyre wear is usually "do your tracking mate" not only is this inaccurate, it is only a fraction of the problem. You need to get the car set up as a whole, hence the term"full geometry set up"

Yeah all true!! I have another thread going regarding Nigel Langs which is a place reccomended by Wheels in Motion, was trying to get a group of members together like they do at WIM and try for a OOF discount but not had much intererst
