Title: Changing Seals - Inexperienced Mechanic
Post by: Alex W on 10 September 2008, 18:27:02
Sorry for my dimness but....

When doing camcover gaskets and replacing all the different seals do I leave them dry or what?

Plenum O-Rings
Inlet Bridge seals
CamCover Bolt O-rings.

I assume I leave the camcover gasket dry except for the sealant as per the maintenace guide?

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Rubber o-rings - i normally rub them with a bit of grease to hold in place whilst fitting.  Also keeps them supple for a good seal.

When i fitted my camcover bolt seals i put a small smear of the black sealent into the slot the seals go into to hold them in place whilst refitting the camcover :).

And yes, sealent only in the places stated in maintenance guide :y.

You most likely won't need to replace the first two, just leave them insitu unless they look bad.

and as said a smear of grease just to hold the camcover bolt orings in place when you turn it upside down.

Be careful not to block the small hole at the front of the head with sealant.

Just post up if you need advice as you go along :y
