Title: Centre exhaust boxes
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 11 September 2008, 13:38:48
Maybe a daft one but, what exactly is in the centre exhaust boxes? Baffles/muffles/wadding?

I cut one open from my old 2.5 and it was empty ::)

Just finished fitting my new one so maybe ill take an axe to the old one later and get my own back.

Just looking down the new back box i could see a baffle half way down with day light from the other end. Not the same as the old one, just blackness.

Yep, ok in the end, despite vx giving me a con. pipe from an estate( they delivered the correct one this morning) and a sheared bolt in the cat clamp as you said on tues. its on and sounds alot better than the old one which sounded a bit like it had a sore throat, the new one has its pleasant v6 subtle growl when you poke it but nice and quiet on a steady throttle.
But i tell you what, if i can lift my arms over my head tomorrow i will be very suprised. I could barely get my chest under the side skirts, even with the air shocks fully raised  and then jacked from there on to stands. So i was working from the side of the car with my arms over my head, undoing rusted in bolts, drilling out the stud after the head sheared off the bolt,(had to go to halfords and get some new drill bits as all mine are blunt and gay) lifting the pipes onto the rubber hangers, lifting the back box onto the hangers, doing up the bolts, getting the re used u shaped clamps  into place and bending them into the bracket, putty on the joints, clips back on, stood up to quick and nearly fell over again with a dizzy head, i had to lean against the car to stay upright. I'm getting to old for all this sh1te.
In the end tho, very pleased, i did it myself saved phew quid on fitting and i have the genuine system for 5 or 6 years so i wont have to do all that again.

My tip, when undoing the cat clamp bolts dont force them, obviously, but do half a turn and wind the other way, like your tapping a thread but in reverse, it just gives the thread a chance to clear, you can feel  it bung up, stop, wind back in a bit, then carry on. Got the other 3 out no prob. that way.

Now teas ready, lets see if i can lift my fork to my mouth. Cheers.
