My 3.0 is due a service and also has leaking cam cover gaskets. not having the haynes manual to hand (ok one of the kids has hidden it somewhere and we are still searching) what parts am I likely to need ? My short and simple list is as follows (I will use my TC card which arrived today for the Vx bits - hurrah!):
1 x Cam Cover Gasket set from the OOF shop
6 x Vx Spark Plugs
Vx oil - 6 litres (so 2 x 5 litre cans then)
Vx Oil Filter
Vx Air Filter
Vx Pollen Filter (I dont think its ever been changed)
Vx Fuel Filter (Do I need to do this?)
Job will include cleaning the breathers but I dont think I need any extra parts for that
Coolant is red and was changed earlier this year so no need to touch it
Brake fluid was changed 10k miles ago so no need to do that either
Brake pads all looking ok
Cheers

I think the OOF shop is all out of Gasket kits.
See my recent thread about the trials of getting the parts from my local Vx "Stealer"

See the Maintenance Guide for a list of part numbers

Re Oil, you can buy 1 x 5 Litre and 1 X 1 Litre
-
ok, so it looks like I've got the list - you're right OOF is out of the gasket kit so its down to the stealers tomorrow with my list of part numbers. I recall reading a post about Vx not having the sealant any more but I cant find it in the search... ah well jsut have to try my luck I guess. Unless anyone knows of an alternative part number.

Black sealant and nowt else for the camcover gaskets. Do not accept anything else.

I dont remember if you get the 16 "O" rings with the cam cover gaskets, so just check :y

Have a feeling I've had to buy them seperately :y

I guess you dont as they are listed seperately from the cam gaskets in the maintenance guide
• O-rings: 90411826, 8 per bank (13p+ VAT retail)

You need to ask for the "O" rings seperately and if you have a TC the 4 for 3 offer on oil is a good money saver works out around £30 for 20 litres IIRC

My experience to date with this car is that when doing one job if there is something else thats 'worth checking' during the job it invariably has failed and needs replacing. With that in mind I've decided to order new cam covers 'just in case'. If I dont need them I can return them unused. At £75 each :o lets hope they arent needed !
Looks like the TC card has saved me money on all the service items but not on the cam covers, gaskets etc as they dont come under TC.
Thanks for all the advice and help :)

They should give you normal trade price on the non TC items.
I think I recall someone saying that the new camcovers come with the seals for what its worth.
I would do the fuel filter if its not been done in 20k/2 years. If you leave it longer they rust a bit and can be a pig to remove.

I took off a 40k mile fuel filter and it loooked like there were coco pops in there, well worth doing!

The parts man was very clear, non TC items I have to pay full retail. I will ask for trade price when I pick them up on thursday see what happens !
Camcovers apparently come with gaskets and rubber grommets so its not as bad as it could be.
I suspect the fuel filter hasnt been changed in a very long time, its on my list to replace.
ETA: Just checked the Autobahnstormers web site. You are right, I should get Trade price on all parts. THat'll save me some money then !
-
Just a thought, if the dealer wont give me trade price on the non TC items who do I call at Vauxhall to sort it out ? I though there was a post somewhere on here with contact details but a search didnt find it...

Just to close this off, got TC price on the TC bits, also got 10% off retail on the non TC bits, total saving £86.48. More than pays for the £20 the card cost :-)
Result !
