Best value is semi-synthetic 10w40 from Vauxhall dealers. Get a trade card (joining Autobahnstormers is the easiest way) and it's around 30 quid for 20 litres of oil if you take up the 4 for the price of 3 offer. Also similar price for a 20l can.

Kevin

EDIT: and yes, it is a can of worms. ;)

i agree

the guy who serviced my car (he used to have a 3l elite as it happens - and loved it) - said - put nothing but semi-synth 10w40 in it :y

Best deal as said for VX 10/40 semi is to buy 4 x 5litre containers, not sure of current price. I bought 1 x 5litre on Friday, Trade Club price was £10.83 plus vat, Retail price is £25.65 plus vat, big savings even with the recent price increase.

How do you know it is any good though?

I would guess it is very difficult to measure one oil against another .

I'd be happy to be showed how wrong I am though :-/

How do you know it is any good though?

By looking at the specs on the bottle. ACEA A3 B3, API SL CF. That means it's been independantly tested by the european and US standards agencies and found to meet the required standards. Anything else is just marketing hype. ;)

This oil is universally recommended on this forum and causes no problems in an Omega if changed regularly - and that's the other key. Ignore the manufacturer's recommendations and change it every 3-5K miles.

As Kevin says.   If you have the time, have a look at the "Oil Man Cometh" thread at the top of the general chat section. It will cut out any old wives tails and marketing hype and give you the honest truth.
