Title: Simple job - not!
Post by: Auto Addict on 31 October 2007, 17:31:02
Thought I'd change the fuel filter on Mrs AA's clit today.

Simple job? The clips are crimped/welded seamless (3 in all) the only way I can see to remove them is with a hacksaw - problem, you can't get a hacksaw in to saw them.

Anybody got any ideas how to remove them?

What you need is heat AA......your lighter will do.....

Apply to the fuel filter for about 5mins until it starts to melt......when you see flame.....retire to a safe distance   ;D ;)

Then take the new filter back for a refund saying you didnt need it  :y

Can you cut them with a pair of wire cutters? You'd have to replace them of course.

Seriously tho......i think i know the type of crimps you mean.....dont think they are designed to be removed.....is there enough give in the pipe to cut the pipe as close to the fuel filter as poss....so you remove the filter and crimps and a tiny bit of pipe.....then use another type of crimp to rejoin the fuel filter and pipes together  :-/ :-/

Only thing i can think of doing  :-/

If you can get a pair of pliers on the crimped part, grip it and twist and it will pop undone, then replace with jubilie clips, hope this helps  :y

Are you talking about the fuel unions or the mountings for the filter?

I think my Laguna had pipes that looked like they had been heat-shrunk onto the unions but there was a plastic tab right up close to the filter that released them when you squeezed it hard.

They're the clips around the rubber hoses, metal, and the joints fused.
