Title: Bucking/Stumble
Post by: frmg0014 on 11 September 2008, 14:46:47
Hey guys!  I live in Toronto, Canada and own a 2001 Cadillac Catera which is equivalent to a 2001 Omega MV6? (im guessing here).

I been experiencing a problem with my car and am hoping one of you can help me diagnose and repair this problem.

Recently, my car has developed a bucking/stumble which only occurs when the car is "on load" while cruising on the highway.

For example, If I'm cruising at 60mph (100km/h) on the highway, and there is a slight uphill and I accelerate A BIT.. it will start bucking/stumbling while it's accelerating!  The bucking/stumbling cannot be heard or seen on the tachometer.  The engine sound is constant, and rpm does not drop or anything while this is happening.  It can only be felt!

This will also occur if I had to slow down on the highway, and then accelerate back to speed again quickly.  So pretty much anytime there is load on the engine!

So far I've changed my fuel filter, transmission fluid, and spark plugs.

I'm pretty much out of ideas.  I was really hoping it was the fuel filter, but unfortunately it's still happening after changing the fuel filter.

Has anyone experienced this issue?  or has any ideas what it could be that's causing it?   :-/  :-?

Have you had leaking cam covers?  If so your HT leads may have had it..

IIRC The Catera uses the drive-by-wire like our 2.6 & 3.2 so will use a coil pack on each side rather than HT leads ....... but that's not to say the cam covers aren't leaking into the plug wells.
What about a failing crank sensor?

Just wondering if you could paperclip it.

Don't think DBW can be paperclipped ..  but the pedal trick might work ??

Can you pinpoint noise to engine, or drivetrain?

no noise... i can only be felt.  It's feels as if the engine cuts out for a fraction of a second... and this keeps repeating every 3 seconds while accelerating up a slight up hill on a highway.

Does it kick slightly? As if a bump, but only from the
rear wheels? If so i "suspect" gear box.
