Title: Cleaned engineNow Engine management light is on
Post by: willyboy on 13 September 2008, 21:03:20
Decides after tea to clean up my really dirty-grimey  looking 2.0ltre CD 16v engine. Now after doing it the Engine management light as stayed on , car starts fine didnt take it on road as its on SORN sat in driveway at moment ..
1/Used Gunk & small brush was very dirty sort of baked on like a film especially on Exhaust  cam cover had to use rag wrapped round a something to scrape the worst off still some left on ! anyway i did cover up several places that looked  exposed before i started ...eg Alt areas
2/ I then used ordinary hose pipe with it on low pressure so basically just rinsed and rubbed with rags as I went ..
3/ Then it started up first time all seemed well I then went back to cleaning with rags & owt i could get in with..
4/ Finished off restarted then noticed Eng management light stayed lit  :-[didnt notice it first time  soooo

Seems likely I have accidentally disturbed something any ideas where to look,
eg which areas  left side  or right side (when looking in at engine from front ) there's more going on the left side me thinks that i may have dislodged a connection there  but hope you can point me more precisly where to look   :y

Valetors syndrome. Water in the connectors, it should dry out !

If it helps I also have my EML lamp on.
But I nearly drowned my miggy last week in a flood. It goes off for a couple of days then on again with a different code.
Have you checked for any codes (you know the paper clip test)
If you have any the guys can point you right direction

On my previous 2.0 GLS I found it was the camshaft sensor at fault.
Try cleaning it or the connections/wiring first. There could well be a build-up of moisture in this region. Did this to mine, and it ran faultlessly for years afterwards.
