If I get the job I want, I will have a choice of company cars. The best one I can see, is a 57 plate Veccy C, 1.9 CDTi.
Anyone got any experience of this car?
-
i have little knowledge of it especially as its diesel, what are the other choices?

Nice as Omega?
To be honest, I'm not impressed with the performance of the GM V6 Anymore. I got thrashed off the lights the other day, and right up to 90mph, by a 2.0 TDi Astra >:(

TBH, i dont think they were ever a racing car engine, more a lazy cruiser. Todays oil burners just do not resemble diesels of a few years ago and the perfomance of modern diesel engines are fantastic
-
I think modern diesel engines are not comparable ...turbo and atmospheric are very different aspects..
wish GM designed the V6 ready for turbo or supercharge..but thats just a dream..
however never see a long lasting trouble free turbo engine..Todays diesels, I want to see them after 10 years ;)
As an example here the second hand turbo diesels older then 5 years nobody pass near and their prices are low..

No. Certainly not a milecruncher. In true FWD fashion, everything a little stiff. Bit smaller, esp rear seats. 1.9CDTi is a peeky little motor, performs not bad if you are prepared to put the effort in. Economical. Not bad build quality for a repmobile - better than Astra-H. I find them tireing on long trips.
-
Had one on test the other week for a few days. Not bad.... quite economical and the engine is in many many cars now and is well proven.
Not remotely inspiring to drive but pleasant enough. Not a patch on the new Mondeo though I have to say.
What else is available?

For the last 2 years I had a 1.9 CDTI 150bhp signum, and loved it, I drove 77,000 miles in it, the 150 bhp 1.9 cdti in much better than the 120 bhp one

Yes. Do it. But, a warning........the feeling of speed will last for a couple of months. Then you will want something a bit quicker...and so on.
That's why you see so many erm.......middle aged men ......in very fast cars. You just have to go faster.

leave the car in gear when parking it :o
These things have a reputation for rolling away, guy across the road has encountered this and it cost a pretty penny to rectify, has been featured on watchdog over the last few weeks, VOSA are currently looking into it along with the DoT

I think they have looked into it....as a few months ago when i had a veccyC....i got sent a sticker to stick on the drivers sun visior.....basically said make sure handbrake fully applied and leave in gear.
-
Right, back on subject. Why would you want a company car? Will the job involve doing lots of company miles? Far better to use your own car and pocket the cash.
I had a company car for nearly 20 years and by the end of that time I was paying around £250 per month in tax for the priviledge. This was hard cash out of my monthly take home pay and money that I had no choice in paying. Actually, to make it worse, I was paying £250 for a car that I wouldn't have bought if it was my money. And yes, I had a choice of cars, but I never had a choice of a car that I would actually buy.
The problem is that during works time the car belongs to the company and will proabably be used and abused as a pool car. After work, you are paying an arm and a leg for the car to be sat on the drive.
If you want my advice, ask if they have a private use scheme in the company and use the Omega. With your mechanical skill you should be quids in and not pay a penny to the government for driving in your own time.
Oh, and one more thing. If you have a company car and you lose your job, you lose your means of transport as well. :(

Its a standard feature of any disc based emergency brake setup.....the setups hava a spring in them which needs compressing so as the disc cools down the pads remain clamped.....trouble is people dont pull the hand brake on hard enough.
The same happens on Mondeos, Mercs, VAG group etc etc etc.....its a pretty common braking setup used by all the major manufacturers
