Title: Oil Filter Cap removal
Post by: Alex W on 16 September 2008, 10:52:03
As per earlier Cam Cover thread Oil filter cap stuck solid.

Been thinking I might use a hot air paint stripper on the cap in the hope that it might expand a little so I can get it to move?

Would I be wasting my time? Any other considerations?

Warm engine? Wouldn't that heat up the whole cannister?

I was thinking of doing it when cold so only the cap was warmed up?

hi m8 if u heat the cap this will expand making it even tighter try using a filter wrench on the out side but dont grip too hard cos u will crush the neck of the filler tube

Heat the body not the cap !!! or try sticking some ice on the cap while the engine/filter body is reasonably warm ???

I know a guy who freed a bolt off by spraying it with the stuff you spray on if you get a knock in sport ... some sort of cold spray stuff .. worth a thought ???

Just bouncing ideas ....  :(
